Surviving Joe Nall 2015

Bartman

Defender of the Noob!
(Edit Sleepy: This thread started by Bart several months ago has become a wealth of Joe Nall info, so if you are going for the first time, please give it a read! Joe Nall is just weeks away!!!)

OK, if you've been there, start talking! If not, here's where you can ask all of your questions

what do you need to bring
what can you buy there
where are the good places to park and set up camp
can i shower there
do i have to shower there
is it safe to eat the food sold on the field
how much room around your car is enough room
are planes safe at night parked by your car
is there cell phone service in the area
is there wifi for attendees or only staff
are there going to be any of those "drones" there????
can i fly
if i fly like crap can i still fly or will i annoy everyone (that's my question)

let's hear what you have to say and we'll come up with some more dumb questions as we think of them

ask, answer, whatever it takes

thanks!

A place to sleep; If it was made someone brought and was sleeping in it. From a 25.00 tent to a 3 million dollar motorhome.
There is no requirements

Can I fly? At least once, if no one comes over takes your radio, puts it one the ground and stomps it I would say you are good for the second flight.

what do you need to bring
EVERYTHING YOU WOULD NEED FOR ANY NORMAL CAMPING TRIP (IF CAMPING) IF STAYING AT A HOTEL $$$$$, SUN SCREEN, RAIN GEAR AND PLANES. (TRIPLE CHECK RADIO, WING TUBE, AND ALL OTHER ACCESSORIES. BRING 2 OF EVERYTHING IF POSSIBLE)

what can you buy there
NON RC: THE BASICS, BUG SPRAY, SUN SCREEN, JUNK FOOD, ICE IT’S ALL THERE
RC: EVERYTHING FROM A FOAMIE TO A RTF $40K JET

where are the good places to park and set up camp
DEPENDS ON WHAT EXPIERENCE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. CALMER SUNDAY AFTERNOON FEEL MAIN FLIGHT LINE. SPLISHIN AND SPLASHING THE FLOAT FLY POND. INSANITY TILL 4 AM, 3D LINE... AND IT’S TRIPLE TREE THERE ARE NO BAD CAMPING SPOTS.
can i shower there
YES MULTIPLE HEATED SHOWERS THAT RIVAL ANY YMCA
do i have to shower there
NO, BUT YOU WILL BE PUSHED TO THE ELECTRIC LINE.
is it safe to eat the food sold on the field
100% SAME VENDOR FOR YEARS, GREAT STUFF
how much room around your car is enough room
YOU WILL FEEL IT OUT. IT MAKES SENSE WHEN YOU ARE THERE
are planes safe at night parked by your car
YES FOR THEFT NO FOR WEATHER. MICRO BURSTS ARE KNOWN TO HAPPEN AND I HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO HOLD A CERTAIN SOMEONE’S 3.3M YAK BY THE PROP TO KEEP IT FROM FLYING AWAY.
is there cell phone service in the area
SORT OF, KIND OF, BUT MOSTLY NOT REALLY
is there wifi for attendees or only staff
NO.. NOT AS OF LAST YEAR.
are there going to be any of those "drones" there????
I’M SURE BUT PROBABLY REGULATED TO THE HELI LINE UNLESS YOU ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRESS IE. GSN. :D
can i fly
YES BUT IT’S NOT NECESSARY, IN FACT FOR YOUR FIRST TIME I SAY LEAVE THE PLANE AT HOME AND TAKE IT ALL IN.
if i fly like crap can i still fly or will i annoy everyone (that's my question)
DEPENDS ON WHAT FIELD AND WHAT TIME. IF YOU ARE TRULY UNSURE OF YOUR SKILLS I’D GO REAL EARLY OR WAY LATE. PRIMETIME IS FOR PILOTS.

@Bartman all skill levels are welcome at Nall. One of the many cool things I've seen at Nall, is watching the young guys on the 3D line ( 8-12 years old) hucking 40%'ers with the big boys, room for all skill levels. You might wanna fly before Wed., it gets super busy from Wed. on. Now if your skill level really sucks like mine, move up to the main line( Circle Flying ) is not only glorified, it is required, here is a list of rules for each flight line http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/flight-lines-joenall.php Also here is a link to TT http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/joe-nall-week.php

First timers don't over think I gotta fly I gotta fly I gotta fly, because if it's your first trip, you'll probably never fly, simply because there is just so much to take in, there is just no other place like TT pure RC Heaven.

Sleepy brought up weather. Bring a jacket, and long pants, sweatshirt. Last year was cool in the evenings. Also the micro bursts are real, anyone there in 2013 can vouch for that, I've never seen so many canopies twisted up from the wind. If your there for the week expect at least one "GOOD" thunderstorm. I suggest a weather app on your phone.

OK this is a "BIG" one if the river starts to rise ( if it rains it will) and you hear "BANJO" music, don't be scared, it's not a remake of Deliverance, just the blue grass band playing at the old store.
