Scale 35% Krill Extra 330SC....CUSTOM-ARF!!!

This thread is like airplane porn, I love this krill 330. I've only tried the poly glue once and did not have a way to heat it.....had poor results. I think heating it to flow and get it thin is the key. I've also had limited success with packing tape but, as normal it looks like yours came out perfect Earl.
I have heard that pam cooking spray will work as a poor-mans mold release but I don't know how it would work in this application. Hmmmmm....I spy something new to try:fist_pump:

It is a real nut-check when you fire up the dremel, but I agree..... I'll never do a 1 piece cowl again. On the Pitts, if I screwed it up, I would have to order a complete fuse, but it turned out well. Yours looks great.

Earle,

The split cowl looks great! Thanks for posting the steps; my next ARF will have a split cowl if it doesn't come with one.

A scale carb air inlet and grill:
OK, after staring at the new split cowl for awhile I decided I had to cut some more on it! The full scale Extra 330SC inlet looks like this...
Grill - full scale - stretched.jpg ....and I found this neat aluminum hexagonal screen material at McMaster-Carr...Hexagon perf.jpg

So....out came the Dremel and voila, a similar hole appeared in the Krill cowling beneath the spinner.

Next step, was to cut out a piece of the screen and make an aluminum bezel. The screen was easy (scissors)....not so much on the bezel. I used a scroll saw, files, and sandpaper on 0.020" aluminum and after 2 tries got what I was looking for.

I wanted the screen to be captured by the bezel, which should fit flush on the cowl surface, so lite ply was glued on the inside, while the outside was relieved to receive the screen...

Then to achieve the final scale effect I made up and glassed in an inlet tube which will be visible behind the grill when the plane is finished.
