Tonight I cut and flush sanded the carbon fiber rods in the firewall. They turned out nice and didn't get the black dust imbedded in the wood like the landing gear ones did. I also added some triangle stock to the landing gear plates.

Last night I worked on the hard points in the rudder. I'm using the screw on Aeroworks control horns left over from the donor Yak so I needed a plywood plate to attach them to. I started by adding a light weight balsa spacer on each side then sanded a recess into it for the plywood. After the ply was glued in a sanded flush, I drilled through and added carbon fiber rod to connect both sides to together for strength. Since this is getting covered I didn't worry about the carbon fiber black dust that gets imbedded in the wood when you sand.

I installed the rudder horns and cut some slots for cables. I used some fishing line to make some temporary cables to get everything in the right place. It was a bit hit and miss, but I got them fitting well and the holes patched up.

I also received another pilot bust today. I now have it in 1/3 scale and 1/4 scale. Hopefully one of them will give me the look I want.

He's supposed to be a WWI pilot, but I think he fits the Golden Age theme pretty well. And for $11 how can you go wrong.

I watched a video of Kermit Weeks taxiing his Gee Bee Z around a few times and all you see is his head in the canopy. That's the look I wanted.
