Very sweet looking airplane and with Bill Vargas helping on the Dub, I bet it rips the snot outta things !!!!!!!!!!!!

Raining here today........ So, if there is a break in the rain, I'm headed out. If not today, looks like Sunday. And Sunday is the rain date for the Hospice event this weekend....

Yep! Bill Vargas is a good dude!

I flew the Dalton on Sunday. Motor needed a bit of work, but I got it running, but the low end and start up needs some work. But I have some time to do so. I'm going to start with tuning the L needle. If that doesn't change much of anything, then I'm going to go with the ignition system. If that doesn't help, I'm going to install a RCExl and sensor unit from Milton. Then, if that doesn't work, I'm gonna call Joe Lewis, or get with him and see what all he says.

But the engine turns the Falcon 31x10W at just shy of 6K. I know that there is more to get out of the engine. I had to rebuild the carb, while at the field. Fuel was pouring out of the carb, in which I thought it was the fuel metering needle. Well, I checked the metering needle, it moved but I didn't press on the needle itself. I replaced the front diaphragm while I was in there. Button it all up, and try to fire up again. Still, fuel pouring out of the carb. Just goes to show, go with your gut instinct! Pulled the metering needle out of it, and it was varnished up just a smidge. Cleaned it up, checked the backside, and installed new gasket and pumper. Well, good news, no fuel pouring from the carb, but still have the issue with the idle and start up. Small steps forward!!

Next time out, I'm gonna try the Mezzy 30x12. :)

As I daid before in the engine for sale thread, I've been having issues with the muffler staying on. Im.hoping to remedy that, this week, or early next. I have a set of 5mm helicoils coming in. I'll get it fixed 1 way or another. :)

Bunky, what else was wrong with it besides the metering valve/needle. you mentioned still has a hard time idling.

Glad you got the Dalton back in the air again. I know it's been a lot of work. There's almost always a few bugs to get worked out.

Left muffler has been coming loose and rebuilt the carb with fresh gaskets and diaphragms. I think it'll come around once I.get the muffler situated. Because no matter what I do on the L needle, it doesnt change. I should blow the carb out, while I have the cowl off and muffler work being done.

In its current state.....

Bunky, yes indeed, you just reminded me!! on my 3DHS extra 120% with da 170 and MTW re3 pipes, one day, i was at the club, flying her like 9 times that day, on 9th flight, landing, all was good. recharged batteries, and airplane had a hard time idling down, it would turn off. so i called it a day, took her home, and inspected and found one header came loose from the cylinder. the two bolts were still there, one was out like 5 turns, the other one, maybe 2 turns. WOW, oil everywhere in engine compartment area!!! so i redid all that, and problem fixed!!!

i then turned motor on, let her get hot, shut her down, then retightened the bolts. they have never come loose again since.
