IMAC Dalton Yak 54, 38% please submit suggestions here....

The Pilot made it!

This weekend will be my 8th IMAC competition for the year. (Sherman, Texas)
Then in a few weeks, will be Kansas IMAC comp.

After that, it will be time to determine, which will be my 2016 IMAC season airplane. Either the 300 ML or the Yak, only time will tell. Once i fly this Yak, I will be able to tell if it flies better than the 300ML. The 300 is the best flying airplane I have ever had, but some small problems: Snaps are kind of slow, and getting her to do spin entry is tricky! Maybe the Yak will do it easier?

ortho, while I have not flown a MEL, you may be able to speed up your snaps by adding more aileron throw. I have a lot of aileron throw to give a faster snap. Plus the rudder and elevator is minimal. To much of either will make the snap look really deep. For me at least it takes a lot of adjustments to find a snap I am happy with. Some people are natural at flying a few times and getting it dialed in, I am not that blessed. CG makes a big difference in spin entries also. A more forward CG usually give the best break. I have seen some pilots try and keep the plane as level as possible when entering a spin. But when this occurs the plane may already decend some. Add elevator to keep the nose up high and keep the GC on track. I just helped someone this weekend on his and it helped him a lot. relaxing the rudder close to stall helps also. Then use the rudder to help the direction of the spin. CG is a trick thing. Forward helps with landing, spins, soft elevator feel. But at least with the plane I have flown makes it more difficult for point rolls. The nose drops fast. AFT CG helps with point rolls but hurts the others.

james, thank you so much!
All great info.
SO that explains it.
DO you have a snap mode?

yes, it is a separate function in my programming. It is based and activated on my stick positions. Only available while I am in my IMAC rates. About 9 degrees elevator, 40% rudder, and maybe 15 degrees aileron.....ish. In snap mode rudder is reduced and elevator is close to the same but ailerons are much higher. I believe 22 degrees. But every plane is different due to surface size.

OK, I cannot change anything right now, but After this weekend, I will change it, and see what I come up. I will let you know!
Thank you so much!

Today was the maiden, and a total success!
WOW, flies much nicer, to me, than the extra. Slows down good on downlines, the snaps are way clean and quick, did not need any thrust correction., Do have slight amount of coupling, rudder to elevator. This is fixed with a mix. needed a tiny bit of up elevator as trim, as it wanted to dive slightly during level flight. After that, the airplane is just a tad nose heavy, but i will leave alone. This was fixed with elevator trim. The spin entry is wow!! awesome. Yep, still needs a good amount of trimming. Needs a tiny bit for a down line mix to keep it from pulling out. OTW, i am very happy. And, landing her, wow, she floats in!!

I will post some telemetry soon. My buddy made a boo boo, and he did not turn on the camera to film the take off and landing. Oh well. What a shame, i was hoping he could have caught it on film. HE did manage to film me turning it on!
