Yep. He has that effect on folks..
I was there all weekend too. Great contest.Delivered a plane to Wrightsville, AR yesterday for a friend and also flew in my first IMAC contes . It was a blast! Met a couple of other GSN members there. It was nice to put a face to a name, to bad my memory don't remember names to well. At he end of the day Iwas 8th out of 10 pilots which I don't think was to bad considering I haven't been able to fly for the last couple of weeks and it was my first contest. It helped that by the third round I wasn't shaking any more. I just wish the contests weren't so far away.I do have some pictures to put up later. We had a total of 23 pilots and we finished the 3rd round at 7pm.
Wow, it sounds like you fly at my field! The most dangerous guy there is a board member that loves to complain about how dangerous people are.Well I had a great weekend of flying as well! First flying since October!! Pulled the PAU 100cc Extra out first.....Dead ignition battery and a leaky Danhakl tank....@&^@^!!!. Removed fuel tank and re-sealed it (just happen to have a tube of Seal All in the trailer!). I am ordering PSP fittings and going Fiji bottle from now on!!!! Stole a battery out of the Ultimate and flew all afternoon yesterday.
This morning I got up early and brought the PAU 100cc (DA-120 powered!!) Ultimate inside for a good cleaning, ironing and replaced the battery pack I thieved out of it yesterday (nice to have spares of everything around!). Also had to replace lower right wing aileron servo that went gunnybags on me at last years' Huckfest (borrowed a servo at the Huck so I could keep flying, but forgot to replace it this winter!). Packed the Ulti back into the trailer and was at the field by 11:00 a.m. Assembled both planes and got four flights on each!
My Extra flies with a 10+ year old DA 100 that just fricken' runs like a Swiss watch! No balls-out power, but plenty of power to throw the plane around pretty good! NOW the Ultimate is a whole other BEAST! The DA 120 is an absolute powerhouse of an engine!! Pulls the Ultimate out of site vertically in no time flat!!! Can't wait till my other 120 is back from DA this week as my brand-new PAU 100cc Edge is ready and waiting to bolt it on and maiden!!!
Okay, that was the good part......now for my rant.......EFFIN' FOG safety officer arrives at field after I had flown 3 or 4 times. Comes down to where my planes/trailer are......Asks if these are new planes......"No Bill, same ones I have been flying for three years"....."Oh, did you fly the Ultimate at Huckfest?".......(Ultimate has a "This plane was whored out at Huckfest 2012" sticker on the rudder!!!!)...."Uhhh....Yes I did." He looks at the other side of the rudder where I have a Vinyl of Calvin peeing on "asshats"....."What's an Asshat?"......"Uhh, I don't know Bill, but if you have to ask, you might just be one!" Then he says, "You know, you are supposed to put your AMA card on the board when you are flying". I replied, "I though that was for the members we don't know (I've been a member for twenty years at that club)". He says, "Well, yeah but we all should put them up there." "what is the reason for that?" I ask. He gave me a blank look, stuttered and stammered, looked down t his feet, and replies, "It's a club rule". I ask again, "What is the reason for the rule? You know me, you know I have AMA, why would you come down here and hassle me if not just to be an a-hole?" "Uh, well, it's just a club rule, that's all". I walked over and posted my card on the board. 15 minutes later, he fires up his .40 glow trainer, takes off, starts a procedure turn and then he loses it, plane flies over the pits out of control and in his attempt to catch up with it, proceeds to circle over the pits two more times. He was obviously a bit shaken, so he takes it out a ways to where I can barely see it (I am comfortable with him flying at that distance!! lol!), one of his buddies notices how far out he is flying and says, "Bill, do you need help?". Bill replies, "Yeah, I can't see my plane!". His buddy grabs the radio, but it is obvious he can't get it back, so I run over and attempt to save it, but something was wrong, I had the throttle PEGGED and full up elevator, but the planes kept descending. I could BARELY see the plane, but was able to keep the wings level as it "landed" in a potato field. He drove out and found it unscathed, except the landing gear had been damaged.
I took the high road when he returned and did not go off on him for flying over the pits, but I REALLY want to know what possesses these FOGS to bitch about putting an AMA card on the board, but don't think twice (or apologize) for flying out-of-control over the pits?
Rant over!
Looking forward to another awesome weekend (and maiden) of flying next weekend!

Astro
