The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Some pics of the sheeting and cap strips I mentioned above. I also go a new canopy and cowl in.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Well,Thanks to GSN, I finally got off my butt and started the recover job on my spare H9 Sukhoi. Here I've been dreading stripping it for a year and a half. Took about 4 hours and she's clean as a whistle. I ordered the Monokote last night so I will have a little down time to fix some minor...

IMAC practice tips for new pilots.

That's too funny. My caller in my first year of flying Sportsman unknowns would have to tell me to breathe. He though I was going to pass out.

IMAC practice tips for new pilots.

I agree with the recording idea. If someone is talking in my ear it just distracts me too much from the actual flying. Maybe if you were repeating the same figure and got the critique in between it could work out. I don't even like my caller to talk unless I get confused and then I'll ask...

Show us your IMAC transmitter setups

I usually have a death grip on the transmitter so I don't like using too many switches. Idle up/down on one switch. In the idle down position it also cuts off a 1% down elevator mix. I have engine kill on the right and left lower momentary switches fro fast and easy access in the case of an...

    Saying goodbye to AMA?

Re: Dumping AMA (insurance) and gong private. The downside would be two fold. First one will be the cost especially in light of the "rise of the Quads". The insurance provided through the AMA is very inexpensive for the liability limits it offers. In addition, in the case of clubs they offer...

3D When is a plane used up?

I've had a H9 3.1 Sukhoi sitting in my shop for a year waiting on a recovering job. You guys are inspiring me to get off my butt and get started.

    Wing bolt idea

I simply glue a 1/4-20 nylon wing nut to a 1/4-20 nylon screw and cut the head off the screw. Never had one come loose or break in over 2000 flights.

    Advice/Opinion on an engine

I would seriously consider the DA150L. It's almost 2 pounds (7.26 vs. 9.06) lighter than the DLE170 and bulletproof.

IMAC Carden Pro 124 Build, My Dream Plane

I don't use Monocote but from what I've heard from folks who do use it, it has changed over the last few years.

    DA-50 Throttle Response

Look for slop anywhere in the system. Links, carb arm, servo arm, etc. I have seen some so bad that the first few clicks of throttle were just taking out slack.

I am looking for suggestions on a work-bench

Looks cool but I wonder about the other tools getting in the way especially while using the saws.

IMAC Dalton 300 ml build thread.

I can't believe you lost so many servos. You were in a slow, gentle, right turn and the plane hit the small springy limbs without much force. Dang, just bad luck I guess.

    Carnage

Nice save. My experience with trees is that most of the damage occurs during the retrieval process. The worst is when the tree has to be cut down. It almost never ends well.

    LOVE'N DESERT AIRCRAFT!!!

So the $350 was for parts only right? I've never heard of them charging for labor.

    DLE-170 - What version

The best and most consistent running DLE170s I have come across all had been upgraded to a DA150/170 carb.
