    Saying goodbye to AMA?

People have to keep in mind that model airplanes are a very small part of what the FAA is doing with respect to integrating sUAS into the NAS. Make no mistake, I think this guy is woefully misinformed about models and a politician at heart. Just look at his completely evasive answer to my...

Which is exactly what I have been told by several people in the leadership of the AMA. They have no interest in policing this.

    Saying goodbye to AMA?

People have to understand that the FAA/DOT are NOT the ones who categorized model airplanes as aircraft. Congress did in Section 336 of P.L. 112-95. All the FAA/DOT have done is started to act on the consequences of that classification. From 336: AMA is trying to get that wording changed to...

    Saying goodbye to AMA?

AMA has already sued (in August 2014) over essentially the same points. FAA has overstepped 336 and FAA has incorrectly categorized model airplanes as "aircraft". It will be interesting to see how this particular suit goes.

AMA has recorded the previous similar sessions, so I imagine they will do so this time too.

Are you going to register with the FAA? Cast Your Vote!

It is not up to the AMA, that is entirely an FAA decision. Last I've heard that is what AMA is shooting for, but who knows if the FAA will allow that or not. Next weekend at the AMA Expo the FAA will give a talk on Sunday, and I am sure this will be one of the hot topics along with their back...

Not sure where you get that I am for a loss of freedom. The first AMA clubs closed in the DC area in 2009 when FAA decided to include model aircraft as aircraft. These were clubs in the DC FRZ. FAA recently expanded that closure. All of this started to fall out of the Pirker case where the NTSB...

BTW - for those who are interested you can see all the active TFRs here: http://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html And using this site you can see them depicted on FAA sectional and other aviation charts: https://skyvector.com/

TFRs are a fact of life now. Get over it. AMA has been able to get a waiver in 2 cases I know of for a jet event held in the Palm Springs area, so they are making progress. But then again, the FAA stepped in and closed ALL flying sites within the DC SFRA last week. So one tiny step forward and...

No matter what you may personally feel about the man, he is the elected President of the United States and gets the same level of security that every other President gets and deserves. Mostly because there are always people who may decide to take action on their hatred. Four sitting Presidents...

There is almost always a 30NM blanket TFR that includes models around VIP movements. They existed before Obama and they will exist after him.

17DEC2015, AMA Says DO NOT REGISTER.........yet

Sorry, got lost in the various sub topics, main thread topic was registration. As far as 336 and the SFRA, there is no question they can do what they are doing because 336 gives them the legal authority to act: They use this as a catch all that allows them to take action based on safety, and...

17DEC2015, AMA Says DO NOT REGISTER.........yet

AMA thinks so, but the FAA had a very tortured weasel around it by saying that the Registrations is not a NEW rule, registration has always been required, all they are doing is applying an existing rule to models. This is BS since what the FAA has done in the past is register aircraft, not the...

17DEC2015, AMA Says DO NOT REGISTER.........yet

This is the one thing I think is of the smallest concern for me. When I see the FAA increase the current $5 3-year registration fee on a $65 million B-777 then I'll start being concerned about them jacking up the fees for us. For me, the single biggest sticking point is that the current...

17DEC2015, AMA Says DO NOT REGISTER.........yet

The FAA has recently decided to include a prohibition against sUAS/Mode Aircraft operations inside the DC SFRA, which is 30 nautical miles (34.5 miles) radius around approximately Reagan National Airport (give or take). http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_0_8326.html

17DEC2015, AMA Says DO NOT REGISTER.........yet

I heard it was just over 50K, but that is a tiny percentage of the alleged Christmas market. I know a whole bunch of AMA guys that rushed to register fro reasons that make no sense at all to me. Maybe early next week we'll get a better idea of how well this registration nonsense is working. The...
