I had pulled the stab from the vacuum bag earlier in the week and add the LE and TE stock. I planed the edges off and did some light sanding. Next I marked out the hinge line and did some cutting. From another build I had some left over balsa hinge stock already cut so I marked out the center...

Been a while since last post but had some time last night and was in the build mode. I wanted to get the v-stab glued in place but needed to take care of a few things on fuse first. The stab plate was glued in place and while giving the glue a chance to set up I added some more of the cross...

The Viper has a standard 2 piece cowl. As of know there is no louvered parts for the cowl. I think Terry is going to work on somthing for plug for the louvers late down the road but not sure. We Fibertech are looking at maybe offering some built kits in the future for guys like you. I'll keep...

Sport Midwest Cap232 (old kit) DLE55

First..Congrats on doing the build. Not sure about the cut out approach as it depends on how much material would be removed. I have done this approach before on retro for pre-builds to add a different motor up front. Ideal after cut off would be like I have in pic but takes a little more effort...

NO such thing as a bad question. Like you I was out of the RC for a few years and when I cam back lots had changed. Also when I started building again I had to go back and re learn things I had forgotten. A lot of things I see brought up again are things we did years ago but know with new twist...

Adam...What’s in mention is the hinge surface material. Going from ½” thick to ¾” thick will allow a greater angle of cut at hinge line.

So after the foam testing I moved onto the rudder sheeting. I used the .007 pre-preg cf strips at about ½” wide on both sides. This should really strengthen the control surface after removing the cut outs to lighten. Before sheeting I like to spray down the balsa with cheap hair spray to slow...

There has been a lot of use of CF these days compared to yester years. I wanted to do some testing of CF vrs Glass cloth or nothing at all for lightning of foam parts. I cut two 2” x 12” foam blocks for the tests. One block has a ½” wide CF strip the length of the block. The second has the a ½”...

Time to sheet the belly pan. The first pic shows a easy way to do the scarf joint on balsa ends for those that don’t know this. Lay one sheet on top the other and cut a long angle through both sheets at same time. This makes a nice true end joint. The rest if really straight forward so wont...

Spats....Noticed on your pic....I run a strip of mask tape (blue is better) down the glue joint area. This will keep the poly glue form pushing out to show surface areas. The poly glue will fallow least path of resistance so close the show seem with tape will help.

Spats...sorry you had some glue problems. I have used the Gorilla glue a lot. It does foam big time so you can’t use much and don’t need much. I haven’t used epoxy for my builds for a long time. It's to heavy compared to the wood glues out there these days. I use a lot of CA because I like the...
