    3D Splitting Cowls made easy

The 105/206 works great for glassing planes. Thining for me depends on thickness of glass used. I have done it both ways with great results.

Nope the resin won't absorb through the spackle to the foam. If it did you used to much resin to start with. The cured sparkle area should be as strong or stronger than the foam you are gluing to. In doing small shallow areas is not a problem but would not recommend doing half a wing.

On my build for the 35% I talk about this also. The 35% came out realy clean. It could be i changed the end profile or it could be the length dif. I plan to go back the the 42% and try this. http://giantscalenews.com/threads/75cc-106-hyperlite-slick-540-by-fibertech-n-more.1503/page-8 Post 80

This may help. This is from the build i done on other side. With length being so long the foam cuts come out better if I separate and do two separate cuts from same block. Still have a very small heat undercut at tail end. This is easy to fix. I used a light weight spackle from Red devil...

The million dollar question. This build covers the first ever of the 35% to be built so I need to get through this part and make sure all fits as planned. I also need to produce a new cowl and will go through this in the build. My goal is to have this and maybe the second one built for maiden...

Looks like you’re doing fine job so far. To answerer your question on when to glue in the tube phenolics. I like to have most all the cross bracing and diagonals installed first. Just don’t glue in the cross bracing were the ply tube plate is installed. I also like to keep the fuse in the jig...

What Terry said...don't be silly...That’s a big reason we come to GSN...I have been a plane builder since I was around 8 and know soon to be 52. I still find new ways to do things from others. I know Terry feels the same as me and a lot of others. The RC community has lost a big part of what...

Got the shop wormed up enough to cut foam last night. Temps outside have been in the sub zero range. I like the foam to be around 60deg min when doing the cuts on cnc. There are a lot of factors that play in the quality of cutting foam with a cnc. I was pleased with the foam cut for the belly...

My wife’s new wood shop and orders have been keeping me a little busy but still managed to get some time on build last few days. I did get the canopy and T/deck in the bags last week. I like to use West Systems epoxy 105 and 206 for vacuum bagging. I mixed just a small amount of blue Rit die...
