Robert, With regard to the perimeter LE/TE of the tail structures, are you beveling the TE and rounding the LE - or - rounding both sides ???? Regards - Jaketab

Ace - I think you answered my next question in your pic. You are installing and pinning the flat Karvan hinges before covering and using the expanding GG ???? I have only used GG on smaller ARF's with Robert pin hinges, and have never had a hinge pull loose. Jaketab

I'm documenting my build with photo's. I won't be posting the pics to avoid rehashing of matter. Just sharing the how I secured the perimeter strips of the tail sections. Jaketab

Ace - on my 58% Pitts, the plans for the fuse are not 1:1 as in your plans and not quite as detailed.

Ace - Excellent tips I may not have caught. The balsa ribs on the fin are already installed. I may try harden it with CA or thinned epoxy. I will certainly brace the fin. Thanks - Jaketab

Started working on the tail sections of the EMHW Pitts S1 3.04m Questions - does the attached pic demonstrate the correct location of the single attachment point for the flying wire on the fin ??? Since the top side tail section has only 1 flying wire at the trailing edge of the fin/stab, does...

Ace, Thanks for help. I had in mind to apply the 1st perimeter strip and let it set up till dry. Then apply the other four. I have downloaded many of your reference pics and others from different forums. Your pictures have been of excellent help. Thanks and best regards, Jaketab Hard to...

Question - getting ready to laminate the 5 - balsa strips on the stabs, elevators, fin, and rudder. The instructions say to soak the strips in warm water, lay out on building board, and apply glue (Titebond II) to one side. The 5 balsa strips are (pasted together) and then bent around the...

Question about which adhesive. I'm using the white Aerobond glue from Vogelsang. When building the giant Pitts, do you use the white glue such as Aerobond or Titebond II exclusively??? Or - do you use CA on stringers and soft balsa??? I currently building the tail sections to start. Thanks -...

Acerc, The ply runners are discarded after the wing is laid out? (Correct or not?) The jig for the fuse is also screwed to the board, so I will get a 3/8" sheet of ply to cover the building table to screw into. My concern was getting something soft enough that would accept push pins. Thanks -...

Question - getting ready to build the tail and wing sections to start. Is it necessary to have a semi-soft table overlay to pin the sections too?? Will clamps, weights, tape, or sandbags be adequate to weigh down flat and hold into place as glue dries ?? If pinning down is required, what would...

Thanks for the welcome to GSN. The EMHW 3.04 Pitts kit is Hugh!!! The cowl roughly measures 20"x 20"x 16". Should be more then enough room to house the Valach 210. Not to get off topic, but 1st task is the build table. Will construct a 36" x 84" table from 3/4" white melamine board with a 3...

    Scale Pitts S1-T, S1-S, and a Challenger.

Hello Acerc and All, I just purchased the EMHW 3.04m Pitts S1 from Vogelsang in the USA. The engine will be either a Valach 210 or Kolm 220 boxer. This is my first build of a plane from a kit - so I'm sure there will be much hair pulling. At this stage I'm undecided on the covering and scheme...
