Will drilling a hole in carbon tubes weaken them?

The further out on a CF tube the better. My Univ of Dayton crew experienced the same fate a few weeks ago. I warned them not to drill the tubes. They didn't listen, and as fate had it, wing tube broke on just a light impact to the ground. They just didn't drill a small 6-32 hole.... They...

    Spinner Thoughts

I like the Mejzlik line of spinners. 6 bolts on the circumfrence of the spinner for retention. Much like the PAU line. Ultimately, all my airplanes will get new SMJ spinners, once the mold gets fixed. The Mejzlik spinners come cut for props, the SMJ's do not. But you will have to drill the...

    Joe Nall 2016 = QUIET!!!

I think if you can't follow the rules set forth by the home field, then you shouldn't attend such event. Everyone thinks that Nall is a carefree event? So far from the truth. First, you have Pat Harness. Owner and creator of TTA. A powerful man in the community. Does lots for the...

    Joe Nall 2016 = QUIET!!!

It is kind of the unwritten rule down there. But it was also asked during the pilots meetings, from what I understand each day. TT has always been very proactive about trying to reduce the noise that our airplanes emit. Damn shame that a couple of yahoo's ruined it all.......

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

I skipped baffling, as I want to make sure my thrust lines are good before I go thru the hard work it is. But instead, I mounted the throttle servo and poked a hole thru the firewall and chin for the pushrod. Initial lay out of Rx and batteries have begun. I took my mufflers to work many many...

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

Uh ohhh!! What is this?? Hope to get my TDRC order this week, so I can finish things up. Baffling is next, and then the canopy, tomorrow nite. With good hopes of a Sat remaiden.....

    Joe Nall 2016 = QUIET!!!

Bingo!! It is on us pilots to police ourselves to ensure that we can continue to enjoy that facility. By going to quiet pipes and 3B props, it will surely shy some folks, possibly noobs from attending.

    Joe Nall 2016 = QUIET!!!

I read the words "will require" in the post linked to me thru FB. Fellas, it is all pretty simple..... A 2 blade prop and stock mufflers can be kept quiet, and eliminate nearly all prop rip. And you can actually GAIN performance be going to a smaller diameter prop with a bit more pitch. In...

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

Like I said before, got the engine mounted. 4 holes in the firewall, 4 6mm blind nuts (removed from the previous MX2), some washers for thrust line, ignition mounted/routed, rudder pocket hinges glued up and rudder mounted.

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

Pics coming soon. Motor is mounted. Working on ignition and an opening for the throttle pushrod. May work on getting the rudder mounted as well. Need to get to the hobby shop to pick up a little bit of wood for making the fuel tank tray and throttle servo mount.

    Technically Not Nall 2015

I noticed early on in the video that the left elevator would move down slightly before moving up. Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me..... I played it in full screen, and paused it as the airplane lifted, and the left stab was floating on the tube, actually, even before it got airborn...

In our 700 class helis, we can see spikes of current over 300A, and that is on a 160A ESC. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of amperage he is drawing when going negative pitech, to stop the airplane.

Thrust vectoring is only left/right, on that model. No up/down. Takes alot of servo power to do so. My 700 heli has 3 277oz servos on the swash. All 3 work together in pitch (climb/decent) and in fore/aft cyclic. Only 2 of the 3 work for right/left cyclic.

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

Didnt get as much done tonite as I thought I would..... Lower back was starting to ache. But I did manage to get the wheel pants mounted and the old studs and blind nuts out of the old fuse. I checked the paint lines as well for the cowl. Cant believe how they match up for being not...

No they are not. Nice flash on the cell, amplifies the whiteness of the fiberglass.
