The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Love me a Citabria or Decathlon too :yesss:. About every 10 years I get the "hangerin" for a high wing aerobat. So glad the cub came in to my hangar :). Truth be told....I have been eyeballing and wanting to get Pilot's 50cc Decathlon for some time now. But I got another Extra 330sc needing some...

Just sat in the shop and pondered the sweet Sig clipped wing. Then BAM! It hit me..... That baby going to need a four stroke for some awesomeness sounding fun time.... This NGH GF-30 will swing the same prop I have and I can make an exhaust for it to dump in the scale location. Giggity :geek:

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Just think of the Hostetler as a clipped wing. More aerobatic but still huge. Right up your alley. And you can even put a red head in it :) So...... JUST DO IT!

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

What size and type of engine is shown on the plans? Looks like a four stroke single. I bet the Torque Pro 70 would fly it very nicely. Have you decided to J-3? or PA-18? Going to run HUGE balloon wheels and water ski it ? If so maybe that 170 is in order .

Just could not resist checking the paint match. Still have some priming and sanding to do on the cowl. Used Rust-oleum 2X spray paint (Golden Sunset yellow and Apple Red). Very close match with both colors :).

Pretty much got everything needing some primer and paint ready for the task. I cheap'd out and re-used the wood and covering from the old landing gear for the old landing gear o_O. Hey....At least the bungee covers will be new :big-grin:.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I should have just done a thread and called it "Trash Can Cub". Most of the plane was either slated or parts got from the good ol' recycle bin. None the less it is turning out quite nicely. Very grateful to and worth the trip to @acerc . Will be my "lazy day" fun flyer. That's not to say the...

Every thing under the hood good to go. Cut and fitted a new wind screen. Will install it ( last thing to do) after I get the all the cabin interior finished and painted .

Got the engine running on the Cub (old style RCGF 26). Needed timing set, Carb cleaned out and a new fuel screen and gaskets for the carb. Turns the 18x6 Xoar prop very well.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

I did a World Models 1/3 scale Cub and a buddy did a BUSA 1/3 Cub. Both of us used Gemini 300 twins (50cc). His looked better (scale detail) but mine had electric start and I fuel injected the carb with one of those early EFI units you could get for rc cars. Worked very well. Did not have the...

Got the CUB fuel tank re-plumbed and configured for scale like operation. Fuel level indicator is the actual fill fuel dot. Was a PITA getting it all tucked back in the plane. But it works :). Got the ignition kill switch in and soon as the new ignition shows up it will be time to fire that...

I went to the doctor..... He said I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol , high glucose, high anxiety and I look high in general. He also said I'm fat, bald and ugly. I replied.....Are you high man!!!??? Where do you get "high anxiety"? I got to go and get a burger...

Still have a bunch to do with the detailing of the cabin and getting the LG, bungee foils and wing struts painted. Also have some fiber glassing to do on the cowl and install the back left cylinder lifter tubes (missing). I also have some engine louvers that will keep that nice Continental...

The HS-225 mini servo showed up yesterday and I just got it in the plane tonight. Made new choke and throttle push rods with ball links on the carb side and clevis on the servo side. Trial fitted the wing too a bit earlier today. Fits perfectly. Thumb screws went right in. All repair work...
