The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

That's a great idea, just ordered 10 plus other items I had in the cart.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

I would think you would use tweezers to start the nut and go from there. At .046" diameter that would work out to .0138 full scale or #6 screw, can't image where # 6 screws would be used other than the dash? The door lugs are drilled at .190" so a No.1 screw would be the right size, as a...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

When the wheels were installed there was noticeable camber in the wheel, I was hoping that the wheel pant would hide but no such luck. Had to set the ram back up in the mill and bore the axle hole perpendicular to the mounting flange. Bored to 3/8" and sleeve the hole back to 1/4". I have the...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

Work continues on the gear. Decided to make the gear 1" higher than show on the plan. The plan show a G38 for power that would swing an 18" prop, I plan to use a 25" x 10" on the 85FS. With the 1" added will have 3" of clearance. Took some measurements and determined the strut tubes needed...

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

No problem, it was time for some mill work anyway. Working on the main gear struts. The struts are angled outward 3 degrees off the vertical and I wanted the wheel pants to look right. While studying the Robart site I came across these struts for a GP Chipmunk, I thought the mounting flanges...

Have the fuselage jigged level on the bench. Center drilled 1/2" hardwood dowel for 1/4" and epoxied these into the 1/2" holes in side if the fuselage for the wing locating pins. With each wing set at 2 degrees positive incidence, drilled through the fuselage with an 18" long 1/4" bit. Made...

The wings are covered. The linkage for the flaps and ailerons is hidden like the full scale. The fuselage is back on the bench to drill the wing locating pins. Need to epoxy the stabalator tube in also.

Was looking for some quick success so I started on the stabalator. The new Monkote works just like old.

Have the wings ready to cover, sanded all the glue goobers off the bench and put on two coat of polyurethane varnish. Fresh start for the covering. Need to vacuum the shop before I can start covering, maybe tomorrow, having a small retirement party here for a friend today, her last day at...

Have the wings just about ready to cover, sanded with 220, 320 next, and might do 400. Found these Bulbs for the landing light, 12 volt, 35 watt halogen, might be a tad big, will find out when they arrive.
