Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

Got some tinker time today. Hinged the ailerons and flaps with my robart hinges, added some spacers to get my control surface gaps right. My plans are off a bit due to shrinkage. But it looks good now. I will be adding LED lights, so decided to start cutting the wing tips to accommodate them...

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

I bent the piece that goes into that center section a bit. I don't remember it being that hard to bend.

Seems like there are a few ways. For me, I had to elongate some of the holes in on the attaching brackets to the fuselage. It takes a lot of fiddling. I even had to bend my forward cross struts a bit to nestle into the center bracket. It worked for me... but yeah, you just gotta dive into it.

It definitely wants to fall towards the tires when in a hover. The DLE55 has no problem hovering this plane. Feels like the tail could be a foot longer though LOL.

Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

My wife is a Nurse in Critical Care, she was among the first to get it here. I was about four weeks after her to get mine. Working for the airline and being her spouse were contributing factors for me getting the vaccine. I am very thankful and I hope you all don’t have to wait long.

Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

Well it's been miserable weather here... still. I'll agree with you @Snoopy1 It's been the worst flying weather than I can remember. Today it was gusting up to 50mph, got about 1.5" of rain, roughly 39F, and a constant 80% relative humidity. Snow is pretty much all gone. Feels like October! At...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Been tinkering with the otter float rigging. Man what a pain, sooooo many angles. Since I don’t have a tig welder, I silver soldered the wires together. Aft a lot of trial and error this is looking promising. One of the blocks in the float is off unfortunately. Needs to be about 1.5”...

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

Finally figured out a way to make me trust the elevator joiner. The one I received should have never made it into the box. Steel is strong, but hmmmm this was a piece of tack welded junk that a grinding disc violated. So after wishing to get a Tig Welder with no luck... I made a plan. Took...

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

Got around to finish sanding the ailerons and flaps. Used the plans to get the contour right. 120 grit made quick work, followed by 220. Decided I wanted to concave the tri-stock where the flaps rest with a PVC tube and some sticky 220 grit. This is not per the plans but made a little better fit...

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

Nope! I kept running into road blocks that prevented me from completing tasks - so I was finishing parts about 80% of the way and ordering parts or improving things up to my standard so to speak. I don't trust my supplied elevator joiner so I need to make another. Rudder control arm seems hokey...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

I’m really liking using the MR30 plugs for all those type of connections. It’s going to be a new standard for me. There are also locking connectors from Hanson hobbies that would work too if it’s more than one connection.

That’s a good idea right there. Just eliminate the connector all together

    Yippee! What the postman brought

They are fine. I've never had a failure due to one. Just noticed the plastic rubbing into the insulation a couple times - heat shrink wont do that, or ever come off, and is thin enough without sharp edges to slip inside snakeskin looming easier. So it's personal preference.

    Yippee! What the postman brought

I've been switching to heat shrink. I dont like how most of the servo lead clips can rub against the wires. If I cannot use a heat gun, I'll use those exact clips.

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

Took the Timber out for a couple flights. It’s dark here around 4pm... so it’s hard to find good beach time with the 16ft tide swing every six hours, lack of daylight, and then have the weather cooperate... I got rained on during my second flight. My GoPro decided it didn’t want to record my...
