    Extreme Flight Owners Thread

My Laser should arrive any minute now. I just need to sneak it down in the basement without my wife seeing it. Once it's there, she won't notice the difference between that and my other red airplanes. Once that's done, the awesomeness can start!

IMHO, if you can save a buck or two on a motor, you should take that and apply to your radio budget. "By the best radio you can afford" is a piece of advice I've seen over and over again. And it's true. Motors and airframes come and go, but a good radio stays with you for years.

And another interesting fact is that the more people switch to DSMX, the less likely they are to interfere with your DSM2-link. This is actually easier to understand, since DSMX changes frequency all the time and is not going to spend more than a few milliseconds on the two channels you're...

I'm not sure exactly what the frequency bands look like with DSM2, to be honest. And yes, if another TX happens to be on the same channel, your RX is able to recreate it. Obviously, there's a limit to how many transmitters can use the same frequency before it becomes difficult for the RX to...

You asked for it... :) Ok, here's the simplified version: With CDMA each transmitter sends out a signal that's been "encrypted" with a unique key so that no transmitters in the world would never have the same key(1). When you bind to the receiver, the transmitter and receiver agree on the same...

First of all, it's not that hard. Second of all, DSM2 uses a technique called CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) which allows multiple transmitters to used the same frequency without knocking eachother out. I'd love to geek out and get into the details, but you'd fall asleep... :)

Oh, ok, that's pretty bad. The DX7 (old version) is pretty much the only TX I've owned and I love it. I got it cheap on eBay. RCAddict16, before sealing the deal on the DX6i, I'd check if I could find a used DX7 for almost the same price on eBay or on the classifieds on the forums.

I don't want to start a radio war, but what exactly makes the DX6 such a poor choice? Lack of mixes? Bad precision on the pots? Are these deficiencies it shares with other radios in the Spektrum lineup? Not trying to start a war. I just want to learn.

Can anyone recommend an airframe for an O.S. FS-70 Surpass?

The next problem is that the airframes in the 50-something inch range are almost exclusively built for electric power and aren't designed to withstand the vibrations of a glow motor. To be honest, you're probably better off scrapping the idea and going with an electric setup. Motors in that...

About the MG82s: I put some 82MGs in my Sabre X. Are they really supposed to suck as much as they do on that plane? After about 30 flights, I have rudder slop that's worse than any budget servo I've had. Not sure how much it affects flying, but it sure feels weird that I can wiggle the rudder a...

I bought a used DX7 about 18 months ago and it's been working out great for me. I replaced the battery as a precaution, but I'm not sure I really had to. They seem to be selling for around $150 including an RX on eBay. Just make sure you get one that hasn't been dropped on the floor or anything...
