    To Vortex Generate, or Not?

Yes, that's certainly the explanation that makes the most sense to me.

    To Vortex Generate, or Not?

To me, the elephant in the room is this: How stalled is really what we call post stall? Compared to 1:1, we're spinning huge props and have insane T/W, so the lift generated from prop wash can't be ignored. Also, the airflow vector generated by the prop is going to lower the true alpha. It's...

    To Vortex Generate, or Not?

My uneducated guess would be that they're trying to make the airflow stay attached to the wing as it passes over the aileron to improve aileron response.

    To Vortex Generate, or Not?

Thanks Gary! So on a full-scale aircraft you want to avoid a stall in 99% of the cases, and it looks like that's what our German friends in the video clip are trying to demonstrate. However, as 3D flyers, we frequently want to induce a stall. That vortex generators delays a stall and allows a...

    To Vortex Generate, or Not?

Nice video, but it begs the question: Are they really flying post stall or are they just delaying the stall and allowing the plane to fly at a much higher alpha without stalling? (Maybe this doesn't belong in Joe's forum, so feel free to move it. The topic is just too interesting for me to keep...

3DHS --FLY LOW-- Always OFF TOPIC

That's why I went with the Laser. I'm so tired of all the 4711 version of Edges and Extras that are more or less copies of eachother. Now I need EF to release a 60" Laser and a good bonus at work! :)

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Hmmm... It's not the first time my wattmeter gives me suspiciously low numbers. Maybe it's time for a new one? Also, the batter had been sitting charged for a few days, so that may have an influence too.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Well, I have nothing to compare to, so maybe you won't find it as amazing as I did. But the power was more than adequate... How many watts do you pull from your 13x7? I pull a 760-770W on a 14x6.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

I agree with you and that was my impression too. Having flown the Sabre X for a while, I've gotten a bit spoiled, since that plane has no discernible stall transition. Honestly, when I fly it slowly, I don't even know whether I'm stalled or not. It's just that smooth! Obviously, something like...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

And BTW, the performance of the DM2820/750 on a Xoar 14x6 is just mind blowing! It hovers on 1/2 throttle and the vertical is insane. Highly recommended!

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Sorry to hear about your MSX! At least my Sabre X is fixable and I think I have all the pieces. Just like a 3D puzzle, right? :) Yeah, it really sounds like we've had the same experience. My favorite thing so far is just flying it around in KE flight. It's just slightly more difficult than...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Quality and a proven design works. Shocking! :) But ok, I'll give you a point for this. It's without doubt the best plane I've flown. Not that my other planes aren't fun, great planes, but the problem is that they all do something really well and other things really poorly. The Laser does...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

I had to throw in two more flights and I tried some KE spins. It took me a few attempts to find the sweet spot, but once I did... Wow! My only complaint is that the plane is pretty hard to see. The 3 inch difference in size makes a difference.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Maiden report: Pretty windy with turbulence coming down from the mountains, but still flyable. I started the day by pancaking my Sabre X and shearing off the LG (fixable), so that put a damper on things. First half flight was a bit nose heavy, so I landed and adjusted the CG back 1/4". I was...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Here are better pics. I really like how this came out. 15-20 mph winds so maiden will have to wait until tomorrow.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

I really don't want the wing to drop, but less wind would be nice. :) Well, both today and Sunday looks flyable, but I have to pick one day for flying and one for honey-dos. And I have to pick wisely! :) Today looks like 10 mph and tomorrow less than 5mph, so tomorrow looks better...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Tomorrow or Sunday, depending on weather. Tomorrow looks a little bit breezy. Any opinion on the 14" prop? It's REALLY close to the ground...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Done! I went with a bit more understated design. (I.e. I got tired of stickers). But I like it! [Hmmm... Really bad light. I'll have to take a better pic tomorrow...]
