Discussion Long term planning: Getting into gas

A little bit of long term planning. One of my personal goals for 2013 is to try out gas powered models. Now I need to figure out what I need to be drooling over. I'm thinking of a 3DHS 74" Edge with a DLE-30 as an entry level gas plane. Good? Bad? Indifferent? Help me decide what I should be...

    Valuehobby Saber X 51

Has anyone tried to fly this on a 5s or 6s? Not that I lack power with my current setup (930W), but more is always better, no? :)

Need recommendation for 3d EPP foamie

Wow! $2.65, even! Cool! The point is that it's really cheap to keep one of these babies flying and you learn a lot!

Need recommendation for 3d EPP foamie

I got a bunch of the Turnigy 500mAh 2s from the HobbyKing's US warehouse. At $3.69, I can by a big bunch of them, always have a few charged and abuse the cr*p out of them. If only everything in RC was that way... :) http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14970

Need recommendation for 3d EPP foamie

The TwistedHobbies Extra Slick has worked great for me. I got the recommended power package. There's other brands, but the Extra Slick is one of the most popular ones. http://twistedhobbys.com/TH-32-EPP-Extra-Slick-RCF-TH-Extra-Slick-32.htm

    Valuehobby Saber X 51

Yesterday I even talked to a guy who was ready to buy one after seeing me fly it... That says something about the plane being able to mask my crappy flying. :D

71" AJ Slick Building, Flying, and Questions

There are two schools of thought on what to do after an incident like that. One says that you should power down and check of anything got loose. The other one says to apply full power and do a snap roll. You seem to be a follower of the latter one... :D :D :D Love it!

    Valuehobby Saber X 51

I like it more every time I fly it. It's given me the confidence to go really low. Yesterday I was playing with the high weeds at CGA (backdrop for a few of 3DHS videos). Definitely a great plane for working on those low-and-slow maneuvers. It surprises me that there isn't more buzz about this...

Oh that was you! That video is a classic! I saw it even before I got into RC flying, and it didn't deter me. :) (Easy for me to laugh about it. I'm sure it sucked pretty bad for you...)

    Extreme Flight Owners Thread

Do I have to have a reason to buy planes??? Does a crack addict have a reason to score crack? :) I figured I wanted to try a "premium" plane. Plus, the Sabre X is ridiculously easy to harrier and hover, but it doesn't have the spectacular high-energy capabilities the Laser seems to have. I will...

So I just ordered my first Extreme Flight plane. A Laser EXP 48". Can I play with you cool kids now? DM2820/750, ZTW 70A, HS65MG.

I know I've said it before, but I love your style of flying, Michael! That's how I want to fly when I grow up! :)

Discussion Extreme Flight Aircraft power systems discussion

OK, here's what I'm going for with my Laser EXP 48": Motrolfly 2820/750kv. ZTW 70A ESC. Probably an APC-E 13x6.5 or Xoar 14x6. Should be awesome...

You have one? I'd like to buy one. Prefer CONUS seller due to freight and customs issues.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Just checked with HeadsUp and the hole spacing is 50mm, which I think will be way too much. Looks like too much trouble. Also the kv is a bit high even at 900... I think it's down to one of these: Torque 2814/820 - The recommended motor, but only rated for 550W. Daddy wants too much power! (And...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

I think I may even get away with a 12x5 Xoar on that motor.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

Are we looking at the same motor? I see 900kv and 630W on an 11x5.5. But the mounting holes may be a showstopper.

    EF 48" Laser EXP

It's getting there... I'm looking at the FirePower 30 from HeadsUp, which is the little sister of the FirePower 46 I believe you have. It's got the same stubby design, weighs only 147 grams (4 grams more than the recommended Torque) and is rated for 630W. For servos, I'm either going for HS65MGs...

    EF 48" Laser EXP

The only thing I don't like about the power combo is that it's just a 45A ESC. It's just enough for the Torque, but too small if I ever want to upgrade to something more powerful.
