The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Luv me some Super Decathlon action! That is exactly where my spare DA50 is going if it goes anywhere. After it goes to DA for some freshening up. It was in a Carf Extra for 10 years and could use a little TLC.

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

One of the guys at the club, Jim, was singing your praises today. He said he went to buy one thing, and ended up spending a pile of money with you. ;)

What's the full setup in your Edge? Mine weighs 17.5 If yours weighs 16.75 with fuel, that makes it about a pound and a half lighter than mine.

    GP 88 Evo thread

The stiffness of the spring I can't be sure of, but the fulcrum is at the correct height. I checked it when I had it apart. I also ran carb cleaner through everything and the three idle ports into the throat were flowing well, as was everything else as far as I could see.

    GP 88 Evo thread

I could try richening it some, but it's at 2 3/8 now, and the transition is nice and crisp with no sign of being lean. That being said I really shouldn't have to be that far out on the low, but it's needed to be that way since new. I went through the carb two weeks ago, and everything seems...

    GP 88 Evo thread

I need to send him my GP61 and see if he can get it ironed out. Performance is great, idle is great, low and smooth, transition is awesome, but the first start of the day is miserable. I think it was 20+ flips with the choke on today before it popped. And when it's hot and humid that really sucks.

Just got back from the field. It's around 96 and humid right now. I had about all a old fat guy can take.;)

I got the cowl painted. It looks pretty good, but I wasn't thrilled with the paint he brought me. It's an acrylic enamel that had already been thinned with lacquer thinner. Not exactly ideal for a 95 degree day, but I managed to get it on pretty slick.

I'm at the shop today bailing a friend from the field out on a painting project. He was having trouble getting the paint to lay down well on the cowl for a big P51 he's working on. I've never painted a "purple" P51 cowl before.:oblong:

K&B made some screaming stuff back in the day. The 3.5, 6.5 and 7.5 rear exhaust engines and the 72 and the 82 KBV engines were awesome. When I first started flying I used to help an old guy at our field that flew pylon when he was testing engines and props. I would hold it while he started it...

    Friday Coverage (Day 1)

Very impressive camera work! Thanks for all your hard work.:brian-banana: The pink, blue and white Krill in the first set reminds me of all the Circus Circus sponsored planes you used to see at events back in the day. I guess I'm showing my age.

    Meet the Pilots!

Great work! Interesting to see the wide variety of airframes being used. Even a couple of the Redwing Slick 540's that us mortals can't buy yet. Again, great work!

    Let's see your full-scale airplane!

I've bailed a guy out that was building a cowl for a Lil' Toot project years ago. I think it was the heaviest cowl on the planet when he got done with his part. He had it so wadded up with filler it was scary. I took most of it out and then painted it and the wheel pants for him. The plane was...

Nicely done! With my DA's I can tell when it's going to start on the next flip and step away like you do. My GP 61 I just can't get a solid feel for, it fools me now and then by doing that blasted kicking back and forth that a DA doesn't do.
