Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

Yesterday after work I shot some primer on my wheelpants and cowl. Tonight I threw them on just to see how it all looks. Next I need to glass the stabs and work on getting the wings, elevators and rudder ready to cover with Solartex.

That sucks! According to the forecast for here, if you can believe it, we're supposed to have our first nice weekend of the year. Like I said before, I'll believe it when I see it.

You've got me beat by one. The forecast for Sunday looks waaaaay too good to be true. Sunny, 80 degrees, humidity less than 50% and a 4mph wind. I'll believe it when I see it.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

After I sanded it down smooth I ended up using some epoxy and milled fiberglass to fill in all the voids in the seam. After that, I went over it with a polyester glaze, then sanded it...

Nice! When I was at the Reno air races in 87 I took two pictures of a P51 on the ramp from head on. The top two blades of the prop were sitting at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock and in each picture there is a different AT6 flying passed framed between the blades. I couldn't have done it if I tried...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

This year we've had three seasons so far. Too cold, too wet and too hot. With too much wind in all three.;)

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

It was an old spinner and the finish was in pretty bad shape. I would never consider polishing my 10 year old Nova spinner. The factory finish on it is fabulous and still looks like brand new.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

The primer I used was Nason 421-19 with 483-87 activator, mixed 4 parts primer to 1 part activator. I also reduced it about 10% with Nason 441-21 which is a universal urethane reducer. The reducer isn't absolutely necessary, but it helps it go on a little smoother. I applied 2 coats. Here is a...

    Glassing and Painting techniques

1K would be something like lacquer primer where you have the primer and a reducer or thinner and it air drys. 2K requires a catalyst or an activator and hardens through a chemical reaction. 2K has a lot less shrinkage.
