Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

Here are some pictures of the instrument panel. Like I said before, it's not very fancy, but it will do. I used a J'Tec kit. I started with a piece of .040 Styrene plastic. I marked out where I wanted the instruments and drilled some small pilot holes on the drill press. I then moved to a 1/4'...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Last night and tonight I built an instrument panel using a Jtec kit for my scratch build project. It worked out pretty well.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

He's supposed to be a WWI pilot, but I think he fits the Golden Age theme pretty well. And for $11 how can you go wrong. I watched a video of Kermit Weeks taxiing his Gee Bee Z around a few times and all you see is his head in the canopy. That's the look I wanted.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

Tonight I did some test fitting of the pilot bust. I had to cut the poor guys shoulders and a lot more off to make him fit, but think I like the look.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Anyone that worked in a bodyshop in the late 80's early 90's is probably familiar with that horrible feeling when you see paint on the backside of your tape. The paint peeled off of everything the big three made back then and you had to be super careful.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

It's been a long time since I've done it, but I've done it with both Monocote and Ultracote. I was painting stripes so I masked the lines I wanted, scuffed it with a red ScotchBrite pad, primed it lightly (more for color coverage than anything) and painted like normal. It always worked out...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I installed the rudder horns and cut some slots for cables. I used some fishing line to make some temporary cables to get everything in the right place. It was a bit hit and miss, but I got them fitting well and the holes patched up. I also received another pilot bust today. I now have it in...

I see a few of the new GSN Nall shirts made it into some photos over at the other place today. Too many to keep out I guess.
