Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I'm going to do the cockpit and canopy first, then work on the rest of the fuse. Primer will wait until everything else catches up.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Tonight I sanded the second coat of Z-Poxy resin with 120 grit then 220. I was careful to sand it smooth, but not so much I would go through. You need to sand, then wipe it off and look for shiny spots, and repeat until you get rid of most of them. It takes time, but when your done, it's smooth...

Sure, but may be awhile before I get around to painting. Anyone that sells DuPont products should have everything.

    Joe Nall 2016 = QUIET!!!

The notification is pretty contradictory with "Can be utilized" and "Will be a requirement" in the same sentence. Until that's cleared up, it's to soon to tell what the total results will be. Just for the heck of it, I weighed a MTW TD75K can: 9.1 ounces The K model is bigger and heaver than...

The BS that went on at NALL on Friday Night

If you listen really closely you can here the folks at Hacker and Castle Creations cheering over that news.

The BS that went on at NALL on Friday Night

There are some times, I should say to some people, where the rules don't ever sink in. As a older guy I know says about his adult son that works for him, "all lessons need to be applied with a bat" We had an incident at our clubs Big Bird Fly-in a few years ago where the rules were, if you...

The BS that went on at NALL on Friday Night

I'll freely admit I would be way more comfortable standing at the flight line with a pilot with that kind of skill flying an airplane with a chunk of of the aileron then I am with a lot of the FOGS at the field. They are WAY more dangerous. But I'm a better safe than sorry kind of guy. And I do...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

First coat of resin sanded, second coat applied. I had forgotten to weigh the hatch before I started glassing it, but I did weigh it before and after the second coat, it only gained .25 of an ounce. Sanding again should loose some of that. For a nearly 3 foot long hatch, that's not bad.

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Tonight I started by trimming the overhanging fiberglass with an X-acto. I then sanded the first coat of resin with some 120 grit, being careful not to sand into the glass to much and knocking off most of the sheen. I did remember to weigh it this time and it weighed in at 11.63 ounces. Next I...

At the glacial speed I work at it may be awhile. I have been awfully tempted to drag the Air Wild composite Edge up to the shop and get rid of the hideous paint scheme that's on it. Every time I walk past it I want to blow chunks. It won't get anything wild, just something simple that won't go...

The BS that went on at NALL on Friday Night

The culture of the 3D world is fly low, hard and to the extreme. Most people I know, no matter their skill level, fly as hard as they can if they are trying to impress an audience. And if the audience is yelling lower, they will probably do more than they normally would. I guess it's human...

Even if the airframe sucks you still have servos, receiver, engine, ignition , batteries and the list goes on. The airframe is cheap compared to everything else it takes to get it in the air.

Absolutely! As a guy that watches his money like I do, I can't imagine crashing one on purpose. Even if I hated that plane, it has value. Not all of us have an unlimited budget.

Planking is a time consuming process but if you going to do a really curvy surface with wood it works awesome. It will be awhile, but I will be showing all my painting steps in this thread. The primer will be Nason 421-19. The paint will be DuPont Chromabase with Nason 496 clear. The wings...
