The I'm going out flying thread 2016

I was safety officer at my old club back in the 90's. I never got on anyone for minor issues. Mainly just for flying over the pits, or landing directly toward them across the runway, or taxiing around out of control. I was there to have fun, not to ruin everyone elses.

    The stick bangers thread

Guys there was some talk about doing crankshafts earlier in this thread. I've seen the bone Doc video and others, but I was wonder how others do them. My attempts so far have been sad at best. :(

Prop failure....... Have you had one??

I never seen a big one let go, but I've seen it on a quikie 500 back in the day, that was ugly. And another on an OS120. That airplane was repairable but just barely. The only bigger ones Ive seen had help. One lost a spinner first and the other was one of the A$$hat FOGs at the field that...

My old club was a stones throw from Scott Air Force base. We had a lot of military guys cycle through over the years, and for the most part they were great. There was one guy though that was freshly retired, and club president when I joined. He did his best to run the club like it was a military...

At least at our field wind blows the FOGs away. One showed up, got out of the truck, looked around and saw no other FOGs for backup and left. Otherwise I'm sure he would have stayed and bitched about something. Probably about the two heli guys doing auto rotations from altitude in the high wind...

Wow, it sounds like you fly at my field! The most dangerous guy there is a board member that loves to complain about how dangerous people are. Pretty soon were going to need a 4' X 8' sign just to post rules.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I've been working on the rudder servo mount. I'm concerned about it's proximity to the tuned pipe so I built a balsa box around the bottom of the servo to keep some of the heat off the servo and wire. I also raised the servo up to get more air gap between the pipe and the box.

Inertia starter, it spins up a flywheel that is then engaged to start the engine.

I actually got to go flying today. :brian-banana:It was pretty windy, but my buddy Tony and I pretty much had the field to ourselves most of the time. It was nice to fly without the club politics. There were two bad ass heli pilots there. I have no idea how they do the things they do. One was a...

    Because it's ZooFebruary, that's why!

In honor of Military Mayhem May how about a few videos about how to preflight, start, run and fly your P-51C.

How would you make a canopy mold?

I know Terry has done it and had it in one of his threads, but I'm not sure which one.

If you want to here talking behind your back while your flying, put a gyro in your airplane. Because you know a gyro is really autopilot. Every maneuver you do in any airplane you own is because of the gyro. The fact that you only have it in one airplane makes no difference. Of course the people...

No doubt! I look at it this way, he should have known better. A few week before that happened he handed me the transmitter when he was flying his smaller 33% SU26 and I did a pretty fast violent Pop Top and it quit. So there I am flying someone else's airplane and it's not very high, the...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

A friend of mine was flying his Carf 3 meter SU-31 with a DA200 one day and handed me the transmitter and asked me to show him how I do a Pop Top. I flew around a bit, pulled up and did a real nice one. He says "do that again", so I pulled up to do another and it just flops around. The next one...

    DLE 85

Yep it's all about getting the performance that fits your flying style. What RPM is turning is pretty irrelevant as long as your not over revving the crap out of it. On the other hand I do like to see other peoples static results to see if I'm in the ballpark.

The new group of rule makers at our field crash way more than anyone else there. One of the board members averages about one a weekend. If he's not crashing, he's flying through the pits over your head.

    First 50cc plane

The Pilot 30% Edge is gentle as a pussycat on low rates or as wild as you want on 3D rates. And the PAU planes have a great reputation as well. Buy what you like, I don't think you'll be disappointed either way.

For the last 4 years I loved my club, but things have changed. We have a pretty large field with an L shaped runway. You could carve out your own piece of sky and stay away from everyone else and do your own thing. Now there are some rule happy guys running things and they are restricting...
