Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

With the exception on one plank down the left side at the hatch edge, all the fuse planks are on. I still need to sand last nights work, but it's starting to look like an airplane. After I finish that I'm going to fit the rudder and sand it to shape. Then I need to tackle the hatch.

    3D Viper-ST 100-120cc scratch build......it continues!

Terry and Rick, I was shooting some of the Spies Hecker spray poly this evening, so I sprayed a couple of coats on part of the cowl for my scratchbuild project as a test to see how it does over Epoxy Resin. I'll see tomorrow how it cured and let you know how it did. Doug

    Fixing up the firewall

I had an Aeroworks 50cc Yak that was electric powered before someone else tried to install a gasser. It was a mess, it looked like the guy used a chisel to cut the throttle linkage hole. I filled the extra holes with epoxy and ground fiberglass and then laminated a piece of 1/32" ply over it to...

Sheeting foam wings, how much weight is enough??

I've always used weight in the past, and put as much on as I could find. The next time I'm going to vacuum bag. Terry (Terryscustom) is going to be bagging a set soon, and is planing on making a video of the process. He's got it down, and I'm looking forward to the video.

Thanks! I've found if I do a little experimenting with planking in different directions I can find a direction that doesn't take quite as much twisting or bending of the wood. That makes life easier.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I finished all the planking on the right side of the stab tonight and sanded the right side of the turtle deck. Some of the stab planking was a pain, but it's on there. Tomorrow night I'll sand it and see how I did.

That new cowl looks great. It really follows the shape well. I never liked when a cowl pinches in at the nose. The new one looks nice and Smoooooth.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

Sunday was a bust for getting any work done. I went flying in the cold and wind in the morning, it was pretty miserable. The wind got so bad it blew my Trex550 helicopter that was in it's bag off the table it was on. Thankfully I caught it before it hit the ground. Family gathering the rest of...

    3D Viper-ST 100-120cc scratch build......it continues!

Terry, your glass work looks great. To make you feel even better about your work check out these photos of a glass fuse I just received. I won't say who made it even though they don't hangout here, but I was very disappointed when I got it out of the box. :face-palm: Sort of hard to see in the...

I've used a lot of the Nason 421-19 over the years and it works well without breaking the bank.

I did more planking on the left side of the turtle deck/vertical stab. I'm fairly happy with how it's looking.

My 2.3 meter Extra weighs 21.75 pounds and has plenty of power with a GP61. I've flown it as heavy as 22.5 pounds on a DA50. It lacked vertical performance with that setup to say the least.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I've got several to do myself. USPS and FedEx both delivered classic pattern airplane kits this week. The big one is an original Dr Jekyll kit and the smaller one is a new Tiporare 750. The Dr. Jekyll is massive! I can't believe they pulled that thing around with a 1.20 four stroke.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I finally started planking the turtledeck and stab area. I did the very top edge first by gluing a narrow strip of balsa right down the center spine. After that I added another strip to each side of the center one. After the top edge I sheeted the last flat spots in the rear. The main sheet...
