I finally finished my first major repair - I think I would do it a little different next time but all-in-all it came out straight and looks pretty good (even though I accidentally used monocote instead of ultracoat so the colors don't match up perfectly. Can't wait to get this bird back in the...

    3DHS Planes Picture Thread

Yeah no kidding...I wasn't really worried about crashing (it's just part of the hobby) I was more mad at myself for doing something dumb on such a new airframe...I know that pretty much any plane that goes up may or may not survive but I just wish I ate crow doing something cool on the deck...

    3DHS Planes Picture Thread

Well - after a total of 3 flights on a brand new airframe, I managed to misjudge the top of a tree on my landing approach - plane nosed in from 10' and was actually fine (until momentum decided to take over and the tail kept going while the nose stayed stationary. After a few weeks of refusing...

    72" Extra 330SC

I finished reinforcing the wings tubes last night - I just ran some CA on the joint followed by some epoxy and then installed the reinfocement at each rib - is this basically what everyone has been doing (on the leading edge I just ran a bead of epoxy - no additional reinforcement). My wing...

    72" Extra 330SC

Yeah - I pretty much do that with any battery, great advice though. I'm thinking I won't drop the battery below 50%-60% capacity before a charge - I will probably only fly this plane maybe 4 flights a field visit (maybe 6 if I'm lucky) so there should be ample time for charge cycling. I'm also...

    72" Extra 330SC

Awesome - I saw the 6.6v nominal rating and wasn't quite sure...just saved 30 bucks...:)

    72" Extra 330SC

ok so based on the feedback from everyone - I think I'm going to get the following: ZTW 12A UBEC High Quality Red Label 2S1P 6.6V 2300mAh Receiver Pack Does this sound like a reasonable setup - set the ZTW to 6.5v (6.0v if the servos can't handle it - but I'm guessing they probably can since...

    72" Extra 330SC

Ok guys - I have decided to run a receiver pack on this larger electric bird - for those of you that run them, how do you wire it up? what size Rx pack (s) do you run and how many flights do you guys get? Do you guys run a bec (or voltage regulator)? I'm thinking of buying a new futaba 14sg...

    3DHS 48" EPP Extra

Yes and the elevator needs additional flat carbon if you do anything other than super slow and low - even then the epp is limited - but still awesome for epp/Depron mix

Thanks! Slapping in some fiberglass should be a quick and easy fix...will do.

    72" Extra 330SC

Thanks for the input - will definately go through the plane with a fine tooth comb - I think the plane has a scorpion motor in it - might swap that out for a motrofly unit as I don't know anything about scorpions or even if they're an equivalent product. Anyhow, thanks!

    72" Extra 330SC

Thanks! I just built the 57" and even though I haven't flown it a ton - I'm hoping the characteristics are similar...based on what I've seen they appear to be and maybe just a bit better due to its size.

    72" Extra 330SC

I'm super excited - I am in the process of buying a used 72" - looks fantastic, about 10 flights on it, and it'll be by far the biggest plane I'll own - I don't know if its a v1 or V2 - but based on some of the threads here it looks like the wings are an issue - I'll certainly reinforce them -...

With the 2x 3s 2600 mah and flying a mix of high speed and low and slow I brought it down at 6:00 with 3.90v per cell - so I'm guessing right about 6:30 - but I never push my batteries so I just set it at 5:30 and it'll allow me to mess around a bit and land.

Nice - that sounds like a great day of flying. I can't wait to fly this bird again - sounds like some lunchtime flying this week. I wasn't used to suck long flight times - at 4:30 my internal clock started getting antsy. But I think I can re calibrate soon enough.

Yeah, this bird is not hard to hover at all - just caught me a little by surprise the first time when it just fell out on its side - something my slick and foamie had never done...no big deal, once I was aware of it, its nothing more than keeping a little right rudder on the back burner ;) New...

Hitec HS-7245MH Hi-Voltage "Hi-Torque" Metal Gear Digital Mini Servo [HRC37245S]

Wonder if MKS will have anything close. Seems like they're making a big push into the plane servo market and are significantly cheaper.

Maiden went awesome this morning. running the motrofly 4315-500 on 6s - mixed high speed and some 3d for a combine flight time of 5:30. Pretty happy with the plane. One thing though - it falls left out of a hover if you're not all over it - anyone else have this issue?
