Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

Not bad on the weight. Mine came in about 1.5 pounds heavier than that (11.75kg in my terms). At my aircraft's weight with the 111 upfront, it is more than capable of long uplines and some 3D (pity that I am not really that 3D capable). Hopefully you can use the gear installation to get the CG...

@Snoopy1 It is looking good. Unfortunately I have just returned to Australia and my aircraft is in a container somewhere making its way back to me (I won't get it until March sometime) so I can't get any photos for you. I have just read over the bits that I missed while I was in transit and a...

I started with a Fuji BT-86 Twin with Magneto. Flew well, but was marginal in the vertical. I now have a Turnigy 111 (basically a DLE-111 V2). Aircraft flies beautifully on this combo. Power to spare, but does require careful throttle management given it was designed for an 80cc.

You are right about the SmartFly, but I have not had any issues with it (I drive it with 2, 3000mAh 2S LiPos). You get a bit of noise as the two servos are not perfectly matached, but I have never had a problem with this setup. Booma still make power boxes with servo matching. I have a Smart...

@Snoopy1 I used 2 servos. Just provides peace of mind. I used a SmartFly PowerExpander that has servo matching so it made the install easy.

@Snoopy1 I put a full rounded radius on it. If you leave it mostly flat (as per your pictures), when you move the elevator you will have drag induced yaw from the front of the elevator counterbalance. While it may cancel out side to side, it will affect performance of the aircraft slightly.

@Bartman, this plane does fly nice, even in my hands. It makes my flying look good. There is a little rudder to aileron and elevator coupling in knife edge, but it is so minor that I manually fly it (no mixes). It also does wonderful inverted flat spins when the rates are on high. Inverted...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1 I was thinking that adding to the former would have issues as the landing gear is not far behind, but if you shape it in it should look fine. As I mentioned earlier, once I cut the cooling hole in the bottom rear of the cowl, it wrapped around the existing shape nicely. Even if you use...

My mounting method is the same as the drawings, however I modified to keep the transparency on. I used clear silastic and servo screws (pre drill the holes in the transparency first) to keep it on and have never had a problem.

@Snoopy1, I had the same concerns so I also made some changes. Firstly I added some 6.5mm sheet behind the front former of the the canopy to support the former and also to give something more for the dowels to bond into. It also provides more area for the transparency to glue and screw to. At...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1, as this was my first large model I did not resort to exotic things like cowl rings and so on. I did cut a fairly large air exit hole in the bottom. Once that was cut I worked from the top centre of the cowl and wrapped it aroud the front of the fuse and it came in OK. I utilised the...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1 I have been out for a week on work travel and you go and finish the plane without me !! It looks to be coming along well. I did not like cutting the sheeting holes for the wing, took me forever and I still did not really like the outcome as it does leave some gaps around the wing as I...

It has had a bit of hangar rash, but nothing too bad. I store the wings laid on eggshell foam so they don't suffer much. I like the extra brace you added at the rear. Will help to spread the load better, even though I have neve had an issue, but I am not flying hard 3D. Make sure you get a good...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1 since I used the original bolt through the tube method, that was not an issue I had. Like you say you could make a front and rear tray to clear your bolt positions. I would just be concerned about moving things too far back as you may run into balance issues. I managed to need no...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1 good fix. The tray is very important to the strength of the fuselage at the rear. From memory the stab tube also is supposed to sit flush against a former in that area which helps to tie everything together around the rear end adding strength and rigidity. Getting it straight at this...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1, this is exactly how I did it as well and for the same reason. You end up with two identical sides (although a mirror image of each if you did it right, I almost found out the hard way :ugh:). While initially the fuselage will be quite twisty, take your time as you add the outer parts...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

@Snoopy1 as you have surmised canisters will not fit without major structural changes around the front of the fuselage (unless you wanted to custom design some). Given that the original was designed for an 80cc and you look like putting a 120 up front, other than possibly for noise reasons you...

I see you have already answered the rudder servo question, but just to follow up, I had no issues getting them in there happily. The short control rods give a very positive control that I have never been able to get from a closed loop cable system. Downside is making servo extensions, but that...

Sorry folks, late to this thread, but as you can see from my avatar, I have this exact same aircraft. It took me four years on and off to build it, but it has been flying for about eight years and two motors now. Just thought it might be nice to address some of the issues that have been raised...

    Sport Little something different.....

Hey @Terryscustom, did you ever get around to finishing this beast? Looked like an interesting departure from your norm, but having seen the rest of your work I am sure it would have flown like a dream.
