David,
You mentioned Hysol, what is the cure time for Hysol? I'm too cheap to use it! I really could never see the benefit verses the cost, if I need a nice fillet, mix up some epoxy and filler , dispense with a monoeject tube.

I agree never used Hysol looked at once or twice but the price just turned me off. I just use epoxy and mix in colloidal silica. Does the job. Just have to learn to be patient during certain operations.

Well the firewall is in and looks good just have to spend some time cleaning out the corners and then gluing in some gussets around the firewall.

This has been on my mind for a month or so but at last I know it fits and can be done. The canisters are in and the gas tank is in over the top of the canisters and I have 1/2 inch of clearance to fit some kind of tank support structure. Hope fully the heat wont be a problem. Time will tell. But it fits. So will be making a removable tank structure, tomorrow.

Looked it up there are a few different types but I believe the one generally used 9462 anyway from the tech sheet 4 to 8 hours at 77 degrees F. That is a long time no different that the West Epoxy I am using.

I don't see the fuss over Hysol, maybe someone that has used it can shine some light on the subject. Seemed like the guys that built Cardens were high on it?
Your firewall still looks thick. Is that carbon tape on the side?

The firewall was 1 inch thick. I cut it down the middle and then removed around a quarter 1/4 inch from either side and then glued them back together. After it was all done the firewall ended up just under 7/16 thick. Splitting the firewall and removing the centre was a lot of work and difficult to get the two sides flat and square again. Managed to remove half the weight out of the firewall.
Yes I added carbon tape down the sides.

The tank is mounted and all the support brackets are removable so that I can get to the canisters when necessary, it will not be easy but can be done. The Taylor Craft does not have a lot of depth in the fuselage which makes things difficult. You can see all the brackets and aluminum hold down plates glued to the side walls of the fuselage.
