150-200cc Extra 300SP

I have it pretty set up as a roller now. Rudder is on, gear is on, cowl fitted, canopy glued on. One thing I thought was really cool is the landing gear. It's all painted yellow but has PAU in carbon fiber. But it's against the landing gear block. I wish it was reversed to be exposed. Installed a smartfly ignition kill. Using planebender smoothpipes. I also got a set of his mounts. They are really nice pieces. I also made a fuel tank platform. Instructions say to balance over the wing tube so I placed the tank over the tube. I also added a 2oz tank to the vent. This does wonders for keep the plane clean from fuel escaping from the vent. I decided to use covering to cover the pipe tunnel. I hope it holds up.

Looks nice James. Don't forget to put an outside brace onto the axle for the wheel pants. This will keep the grass from busting them off. They are light weight and should have the outboard support.

TheRe is a warning, if you are running pipes or cans, install the landing gear first. With the exhaust in place you (at least me) cannot get your hands in far enough to get to the bolts. My wife had to help on this one.

The plane is just about done. Plan on an initial tune on the engine tomorrow. Set it up on aa push pull for rudder. The wood for the mounts seemed a little thin for the 2 monster torque servos so I glued in some extra support. I also built my own push rods and used carbon fiber tube to go over the threaded rod. Epoxy to bond it solid.

I have had the worst luck with covering around air exit holes. So I went to TNT landing gear and bought some trim. This should work great...............I hope. I am starting with on piece of triangle stock to pull air out of the tunnel. I may add a second later.

Was able to do the maiden today. It was only 2 flights but my impressions of this plane is really good. I instantly felt connected and comfortable with this plane. Similar feelings I had with my H9 planes. But I have a bunch of trim flights to get it dialed in. The reason for only 2 flights was this plane seems to really need baffling. Not unusual but the engine was getting really hot with gentle flying. Average was high 200s and it was getting in the 340f range. So I wanted to save the brand new engine and will try some baffling.

So here is some quick baffling. I hope it works ok. A baffle plate worked better on my Sukhoi but I will try this first.
