I seem to remember preparing the surface with steel wool rather than sanding.

Wingtip update. Turns out the high heat method followed by mini iron circles is the absolute worst for removing the film if need be. . . I spent HOURS removing the covering in preparation for paint. Ended up with four light coats of paint.
I may clear coat it in a week.

Gap sealed the ailerons with matching ultracote cut to 3/4” strips. Used an incredibly dull hole punch for the hinges as the crinkling sound is just too much for me. LOL

Other than the gear... I am basically done with all the iron on covering at this point!!!

R985 Detailing. I couldn’t remember where I left off... but I made pushrods, designed and 3D Printed an ignition harness.... yeah... LOL
Used 20AWG servo wire for my ignition leads.
Not too bad! Worth the effort. Now I need to glue it to the cowling.

Been getting some more tinker time on this bird. Worked on the aileron horns. There was a discrepancy in the plans for too small aileron horn blocks. So if your going to use the supplied horns - be smarter than me and make sure the blocks are big enough for them.

Decided to make some horns from G10 board and utilize a ball link. Masked and painted to match.


Marked the location to drill within the block.

My decal dilemma was solved by inquiring a quote from Callie Graphics. Guess what showed up!


Callie Graphics nailed it! Super impressed. I asked for two logos and two pairs of separate N#’s; gave them some size restrictions, scale pics, and the model scale.




I take pride in using my A&P license during this process.
