Finally!! Back from Europe and had some decent temperatures in the garage to do a little building!!!

I soldered the deans connectors on the two switches I will be using and took the Pilot cowl out to see if it will fit. Either by taking out the plywood inside the cowl or by reshaping F-1 a little bit and it will work out well. See the pics for the current fit.

I sanded the sides of the frame of the rudder and vertical fin and sheeted the fin. I also had fun and ordered the rest of the equipment and hardware for this build. So all I need to buy now is the covering and a few little hardware things like hinges.

I bought a canopy for an Extra 230 from fiberglass specialties. I will find out in a few weeks of that will fit as well:)

I am just about done with the fin/rudder! I am working on using wood glue instead of CA but those cap strips work so much better using medium CA. I cut a long 10 mm wide strip of sheeting and then cut them to size measuring on the rudder itself. Then I roughly cut the top sheeting. I then placed the top sheeting on and cut way more precisely and glued it in place. I sanded it down to the correct size after that. The cap strips were added after that. I needed to make a balsa block from scrap balsa for the control horn. After I sheeted the bottom portion of the rudder, I cut out the sheeting over the control horn balsa block to put in the plywood piece.

The fuselage pic is where I put in balsa blocks to make the part where the dowels will go into the fuselage flush with the side.

Looks Great! I am curious on the fitment of the cowl. A friend of mine is building the YAK right now and he purchased the pilot canopy and cowl. we had to make new rear turtle deck formers but it looks real nice on there. The cowl is almost a perfect fit as well with the inside ring removed.

Anyone wanting a short kit feel free to contact me.
