3dhs 92" edge 540 !!!

Fromeco Relion 2600 - $38.50 EACH - 3.3 oz (because it's a real bad idea to just use a single JR connector...even with two batteries...)

Glacier 30C 2200mAh 2S 7.4V LiPo - $15.50 EACH - 4.5 oz

GForce 25C 2200mAh 2S 7.4V LiPO - $12.50 EACH - 4.2 oz

I see no reason to use Li-ion packs as receiver power in high performance aerobatic planes.

To me, the small weight penalty is worth the MUCH higher C rating and the over 50% price savings.

I also don't believe in wasted C rating...it's always going to help. (read: you won't have to even worry about voltage drop under load as long as you're using good connectors)

It would be a different conversation if comparable Lipos weighed TWICE as much....or weren't less then half the cost...but they don't and they are.

THAT BEING SAID...quality Li-Ions in a warbird or scale project....I could see it making sense if you didn't mind spending the extra money for less power. (maybe if you needed to tuck the packs up in a hard to reach part of a scale plane)

HOWEVER, I would never use Li-ions in a high performing aerobatic airplane with digital servos. (I welcome discussion, though....I could be wrong...)

Moose, I copied this post and started a new thread on it here: http://www.3drcforums.com/showthread.php?2214-Lipo-vs-Li-Ion

That way we can further discuss this topic without taking away from the 92" discussion here.

I had a crazy day of flying on Saturday.

Flight 1: 11 min of knife edge fun....choke servo broke loose
Flight 2: 8 min of fun.....spinner flew off, after finding the spinner on field the bolt snapped off.

It was a 12.9 hardness...wonder if it was too brittle? I may go with a SS bolt if I can find one...
Where do you guys get your spinner bolts? I need M5-.8 x 120mm.

Here is video of spinner and a fly by @ 102mph...

Flight 3 with no spinner.....13 min of fun...dead stick ...out of gas...good landing..

Got a question for those of you who have built one of these.

I got my edge yesterday and when I was going thru the bag of components there was a wooded spacer in there that looks like the cutout for a DA60 carb. Is that what it's for? Just cutting the hole in the firewall.

Not exactly positive, but I believe that spacer is for mounting an engine. Yowzilla mounted his GP61 with that and some standoffs, as did I until I got the correct length standoffs.

There should be a flat cut out/drill template for the DA60 in the kit.

Yea I used the included wood spacer with the Edge kit and the spacers from the GP-61, but did not fly it this way. IMG_4110.jpg

The ticket is with the custom standoffs from Craig. If you have the GP-61. If you have the DA I have an unused Blazing star stand off for sale..

Gyro,

Yeah I saw the drill template for the DA50/60, but the cutouts there will not work for the 60.

Yowzilla,
I already have a Blazing Star mount for the DA60. Thanks though. :)

What do you all think about using that spacer on the inside of the firewall. Might give a little extra surface area on that backside instead of just some washers. Although I'm a little worried it might cause more harm than good because of longer bolts needed.
