Got a full hour of flight time on the Edge so far, having a lot of fun with it. Here are the observations thus far:

It's fast, but definitely a pinch heavier than the 87" SHP. Regardless, it's fast. Did I say it's fast?

It has TONS of rudder authority: without the SFGs.

The new Hitec HS-9370TH servos are a dream. They sip power (six flights on a pair of 2s 2200mah down to 3.7v), and center extremely well. The 350oz/in is plenty of torque for all maneuvers with NO blowback.

Very stable and predicable in low speed maneuvers.

Small amount of KE coupling with CG at neutral.

Present nicely in the air, looks sexy on the ground.

The GP engine is a beast!

Yeah very nice looking airplane Gary, planning on getting one myself. Looking to run a 70 twin though and can't decide if I want to run a 2 into 1 header with 1 tuned pipe or the typical twin setup of 2 tuned pipes. Do you mind measuring the width of the pipe tunnel for me so I have an idea if it is even possible to fit 2 tuned pipes in there?

I would just run stock mufflers but my field has a noise restriction so that rules out that option.

Thanks,

Neil

Good luck finding a 2 in 1 header, even more difficult with a tuned pipe. You are going to have to custom make it.

I want to see as well if two of something will fit when Greyhound finally releases mine.

Gents, I should be able to get some measurements in the next day or two, when I get some time to do some post flight maintenance.

On the other hand, I'll suggest that the GP61 I have is PLENTY of engine for this plane on a straight muffler... And if you're a pipe guy, this motor loves a pipe from what I'm told.

So after the first hour and a half of flight, Kole from Limitless Aero (GP dealer) said I should prop up from the 23x10 to the 24x9, and....
right now, running rich, the 24x9 Hover CF prop I have is just barely ripping a tiny bit, and was cranking 6900 rpm on the ground... I expect I'll have to prop up to a 24x10 when I'm done breaking her in and lean her out.

The spec we keep coming back to is the DA-60 turns the 24x10TH at 6300 RPM and close to 6800 RPM on the RE2 for reference. This engine is the yard stick for this class motor.

If both of these numbers are accurate comparisons (probably not due to different atmospherics) then the GP is a true beast. I had to guess at the prop constant for the Hover, as I used the Falcon carbon one which is one of the lower ones. Using 1.1 instead of 1.15 still make this motor 105% of the DA on a "stock" straight pipe muffler.

Engine 1 is the DA-60 with a Mejzlik 24x10TH
Engine 2 is the GP-61 with a Hover 24x9

Matt, any chance you have a 24x10th I could borrow to gather some test data?

And yes, I've been told this engine has a little more grunt than the DA... Which is why we're reviewing and evaluating it. We want to get the info out there for everyone, good or bad .

nice 1 gary looks the goods, i love mine

Thanks Glen, it's really a beauty! Can't wait to add some of my custom vinyl to her now.

Gary, how did your throttle end up feeling? Did you add a Throttle curve?

Make sure to include in the engine review that it doesn't include a better throttle arm like the DA's do.

Moose, the throttle actually felt no different than my other planes. I always run a throttle curve to bring a little more resolution into the lower portion of the throttle stick, and I did the same with this engine. Both Brian and I flew it plenty on Friday, (9 flights for 1.5 hours worth) and had no issues. Going to edit the video now :)

As for the review, it'll be just as comprehensive as the other reviews we've done here. And for $300 less than the DA, you can buy a lot of throttle arms IF you want one... just sayin :)
