However, I can see how the gyros power of stabilizing the plane can allow you the help you need to push your skills to the next level, by allowing you to focus on one axis to learn at a time instead of 3.

I have the Cortex and it is awesome! Yes it ABSOLUTELY has helped my skills to advance. Although it is possible to put it into hold mode and do hands off hovering, that is not how I use it. I use the normal mode which HELPS to stabilize the plane. It still allows for extreme 3D bucking, but it takes some of the work load off the pilot which makes it possible to progress into new skills much quicker and without as much danger of turning your plane into a lawn dart. As you skills progress you can turn the gain down on the gyro to allow for less and less "help". When you fly on a very windy day you can turn the gain back up.

Full disclosure: I do seek the Cortex, but I also use it EVERY TIME I fly. I really believe what I say. I started a thread on it in another forum if you want to learn more about it. Also, i give a nice disc out to first time buyers:)

I wasn't completely dissing the gyros just the "full auto" mode.
Hey Gyro how do you turn your gain down? Lol.

+1. Now the FOG talk of Hover and KE "switches" will start again.

Haha... I met an old guy at the field the other day and he said he was finally going to upgrade to 2.4GHz and asked me what radio to get. I handed him my DX8 and asked him to check if he liked the feel. He was about to go get one, but just as I was about to leave he asked me "Hey, where is the snap roll switch on that one?". Apparently that was his deal breaker...

I guess older 72 radios had a "mix switch". I vaguely recall an old Futaba I had in a previous life. I've had the KE "switch" question. I hope you did what I did and held up your hands! Lol.

Thanks GYRO, I was glad we got to meet-up; I wish you'd taken me up on my offer for a tug on the sticks. I enjoyed flying your Edge.

Like YellowJacketsRC said, this Cortex is amazing. The two biggest selling points for any future operator is 1) the ease of setup, 2) how well it works when you want it to and not when you want to 3D/tumble.

I have mine setup on two "Banks" on a three toggle switch - center being "off.". Bank 1 is my normal flying with my gains about 30% which takes the wind out of the picture on gusty days - this was my primary reason for getting it and until this day of flying, I had not tried the Bank 2 (Heading Hold / Hovering) function. I was pretty amazed to only work the throttle for the hands off hovering. It was great to see at some points the full Aileron reflections to counteract the torque. Still, as this is a nice party trick - my primary use of the cortex is to counteract the wind and allow me to fly more days without frustration of fighting the plane. I have not fully tuned mine for each surface or hooked it up to upgrade the firmware - this was out of the box settings + my gains set by the endpoints.

GYRO, let me know when you get back and we can discuss your parts. Yell at us again when you are in-town, otherwise we will try to catch you at the next event. I will try to post the video of you flying the power kite, too!

If I have any funds left after building the new MXS I was thinking of adding this as I hear so many interesting things with it.

Hi YellowJacketsRC; I couldn't find you thread for the Cortex. can you please give us the link? also where do we buy one? I read the article about it on AMA magazine but the way you described it, it seems to be a lot of help. Thanks.
