I have the Cortex and it is awesome! Yes it ABSOLUTELY has helped my skills to advance. Although it is possible to put it into hold mode and do hands off hovering, that is not how I use it. I use the normal mode which HELPS to stabilize the plane. It still allows for extreme 3D bucking, but it takes some of the work load off the pilot which makes it possible to progress into new skills much quicker and without as much danger of turning your plane into a lawn dart. As you skills progress you can turn the gain down on the gyro to allow for less and less "help". When you fly on a very windy day you can turn the gain back up.
Full disclosure: I do seek the Cortex, but I also use it EVERY TIME I fly. I really believe what I say. I started a thread on it in another forum if you want to learn more about it. Also, i give a nice disc out to first time buyers
