GYRO how does the extra compare to the Redwing MXSR that was recently reviewed? I am thinking about getting one of the two for my first gasser, probably in the distant future but wanted to start looking now.
Well... two different planes from two different manufacturers, with two different structural designs, and two different target markets!
The 71 Extra is a little bit lighter, really designed more for Electric but capable of taking a DLE-30 with a tiny bit of effort up front to seal up the motorbox. The MXSR is definitely ready for a DLE30 up front, and has a little bit more structural rigidity, it easily handle a DLE-35. The Extra is more stable in upright harrier, but that is because it's made to be: triple tapered wing and SFGs. The Extra also gets a tiny bit more control defletction, and has slightly bigger control surfaces. This is likely all due to that fact its designed for 3D FIRST, whereas the MXSR is an all around airplane, one that can do precision, 3D, IMAC... really everything. Not saying the Extra can't, it can... but it's strong suit is 3D, especially down low & slow. They both come with many useful accessories, and they both look and fly well. Select the one that fits your flying style best would be my advice!
Hope that helps without being too ambiguous.
