Bill Hempels Team Edge still operating ?

I am waiting for Bill Hempel from team edge to provide a solution in Bill's words. I was so looking forward to flying my new glider in Australia during summer....

however i think electric flight is the way of the future - all planes should have provisioning for e-power... and by that I mean a magnetic hatch (or something similar) to access the batteries. I wonder if that's what Bill had in mind when designing the removable door? Looks like plenty of room to get batteries in and out.

I'll compare my engines to my guns. I'll give you my gun (and my 3W's) when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.

I like 'em "BIG"!

I've heard that somewhere before.

It's a good idea, but not practical enough to implement. Battery tech just isn't there yet to be probable for all airplanes, and it's why you don't see many people going electric on their 40%+ airplanes. I have a 40lb 40% airplane (AJ Aircraft 115" Laser 230Z) that would not fly the same with a large set of flight batteries and an electric motor on the nose as it would with its current setup (ZDZ180). I've flown bigger airplanes that would fly, well, pathetic with an electric setup.

Besides, even on smaller airplanes that are electric capable, I still prefer 2 thumb screws to secure the canopy or hatch to ensure it is tight.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of guys hunting for their magnet attached hatches at our field after they blow off. Some work really good, and some don't.

Man, the hobby sure has changed a bit. I’m not on here like I used to be, but a lot sure has changed. Bill H was always quick to respond back in the day, I guess life has happened for him too.
A couple years ago, I acquired a used Hempel Yak 55,
It came with some damage, not bad, just needs some TLC, the tail gear area needs to be looked at, covering could be patched up here and there. I tried contacting him in my busy schedule, which means I tried to call, no big deal, I never got the 3W 275, but I did acquire brand new 3W canisters, a new cowl and canopy, but in the red and yellow scheme, the airframe is the blue and white one, and then the whole project ended up in storage. Someone mentioned firearms and engines being pry’d from his dead hands, that’s how I feel about everything I own, but I don’t think I will be getting this 50% Yak off of the ground. I wanted to see if there was any interest. Maybe I will sell it if there is. I still have all my old RC stuff, still have a couple 40%’s and a 35%, I sold my 18’ trailer, so I’d have to get another one, but I don’t see that happening. Too many hobbies, not enough time, yeah, maybe I’ll let go of it. Gotta think of a price, send me some suggestions!

Bill Hempel is still selling planes. I emailed Bill recently, regarding the availability his 35% Extra 260 for a future project and Bill promptly responded back to me. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any, nor are there any in the container that is on its way here. . . . . :(.
