Yes on fuel proofing.

Clear coating is a lot of work but a fun challenge. First coat finish under a microscope will look like a mountain range, wet sand the mountain tops off and second coat fills in the valleys. Repeat with wet sanding only mountain top peaks aren't so prominent the second time around. Neither are the valleys. Apply 3rd coat, now your peaks and valleys can (should) be able to be wet sanded to match evenly.

Your sand paper should come from Micromesh. Their sanding kits start to get serious in the 5000-8000 grit range, 12,000 grit may sound silly but then you move onto their liquid sandpaper and there's a liquid polishing compound after that. Micromesh is serious about their product.

I think the finest paper I've ever used was 800 on my cowls. I've done quite a bit of clear coat, but with dope. I know it's a time and patience thing and I'm not always good with patience!

Just took a look at the stits site and it looks like the same company that makes the poly tak and poly brush I ordered from Balsa USA. Price doesn't seem too bad iether. I think I just have a mental block when it comes to latex paint. Can't seem to wrap my mind around using house paint for my planes :oblong:. I'll have to do some more lookin on the stits sysem and maybe give it a try.
Give it a try you will never look back. It’s made for planes and it all sticks together because of the chemistry are compatible. Tried many combinations but I will stick with Stits for now.
If you are looking for a automotive type finish that you can comb your hair in then Stits is not for you, but light good adhesion and last forever and fuel proof then go for Stits. There are a lot of how to video on Stits watch few and then decide.

I order all my materials from www.stits.com. Give them a call and I’ll bet they will mail you a color card. I’ve had this one for a long time but didn’t see it on their website when I looked just now.
