Dimes, are you referring to my comments your your FG thread? I was just stating that the blasting of something new just because......was a little too much FG assumption drama. I was probably just in a bad mood.

Personally I could care less how a China engine performs, I won't buy one until they are proven to run by someone else. For guys like me that have 8-10 planes and engines that are constantly getting swapped out for prototypes and new planes it may not always make sense tho have a da in a beater upper plane. I love my DA's, DLE's have never let me down but I am sceptic all of the fly by night others. I have had a couple eme's but am still uncertain and have had mixed luck with other China and Taiwan engines.

With that, I'm about to send three DA's in for service and at least I know they will be ready to rock for my most prized toys for next year!!

Not personally because of what you said. My skin got hardened by an ex and kids long ago. The KCS will probably be a decent engine but it hurts me that US support in the manufacture of hobby grade goods is mostly gone. Eventually DA wont survive unless he can keep his gov't contracts. And as a former government employee I know they can pull a contract in a heartbeat. I am mostly saddened (as said by others) that we have become a "disposable nation". Yes, I feel our nation is being disposed of. Enough of this. I will try harder not to be so pessimistic.

I think the hobby industry is especially prone to disposable items now. To me almost any smaller ARF is basically disposable in the long run. I completely understand the lure of cheap engines, but do feel bad when guys that don't listen or don't undersatnd get them and struggle with them.
My pet peeve is cheap electronics in giant scale planes. I just cringe when I see $12 hobby king servos in a 50-100cc bird. Or worse yet $10 receivers, this I see as a pending safety issue. But, like the engines, if it's there someone will buy it.

the balance between quality and price is struck when you guys log on here. for the new guys, speak up and ask questions. for the more experienced folks, pass along what you've come to know. the free exchange of information is the great equalizer!

there's nothing wrong with considering an inexpensive chinese RC engine if you're thinking about trying out Giant Scale RC. But ask about the particular one you're considering as they aren't all the same, most suck but there are a few worth trying as a first big gasser. same with planes, electric motors/ESC's, servos, batteries, radios, etc.

ask the folks that have been there and done that. if anyone says they all suck, just ignore them. if anyone says buy whichever one you come across first, ignore them too. somewhere in the middle is the answer and from there you can go about getting started.

a lot of people have learned on inexpensive stuff (with the help of some worthwhile guidance) only to go on to more expensive equipment when they were ready. (but don't be afraid to step into the mix and ask a bunch of questions. if anyone tells you to stop mucking up the site and do a search, that's not site policy. maybe get started in the beginners' lounge with the basic stuff but feel free to post new threads asking questions. it's how we get to know each other around here.)

it's all part of what makes the world go round. :)

Being an ex-marine during the Viet Nam era that movie certainly brought back memories..our drill instructors didn't get shot but we did loose the first set from an incident of their making...the second set were worse than the first...
