The gull wing design was to shorten the retracts for heavy landing conditions.

I thought it was to get ground clearance for the prop.

Here is a very interesting read fellas. Not only were the landing gear short (in the lowest part of the bend on the wings), but a behemoth sized prop too. But there was a reason for this. I did not know that the Navy needed 1000 mile range and a 70 mph stall speed.

I got back working a bit on the Corsair. If time allows it, next to fabricating kits, I try to work on the 1/3 scale Corsair. It took me several weeks to come up with a solution to make my own carbon fiber spar and sleeve for the wing connection. I couldn't use a wing tube, as it was in the way of the retracts. A lot of modifications where necessary to come up with this solution. It is rock solid and actually much better than a tube. Now I have to make the same o the other side. Back to making kits now.

Meanwhile on the 1/3 scale Corsair. Got the wing spar in position and needs to be glued in place. Working on the final adjustments to the flaps to make the molds for it. Hope to have the wing all completed end of this month.

First fit of the flaps out of the mold. Some cleaning up to do. Meanwhile doing the molds for flaps on the other side.

Fitting the composite flaps to wing gull. Once cleaned up and trimmed they will work great. I had aluminum hinges cut out on a water jet that I will use for this. It will all come together just nice.
