Curious. Ethanol or not

This weekend last minute a buddy of mine asked me to head out to the lake for some fun on the lake. So I pulled out my jetski that has been sitting since mid 2014. Has not been running at all, .I winterzed it at the end of 14 but that has been it. There was a 1/2 tank of fuel in it so I installed the battery and it fired right up after the fuel system primed back up. I did not add any fuel to the tank because I wanted to burn everything out of that tank. That engine ran strong the whole day. No issues running at 7000 RPM at 64 MPH (GPS). It did not seem to loose any power running 2 year old gasoline. I went out the next day and it was filled with fresh fuel. Ran the same.

That's rather interesting. Do you remember if your tank had Ethanol in it or Non? When you "winterized" it, did you put anything in the tank? Stabil? Or like? Metal tank? The reason I ask these questions is, I have worked on customers cars that have sat idle for long periods of time and the gas (Ethanol) stank to high heavens. Was able to get the cars running but they didn't run too well. Added fuel booster and filled with fresh "non" ethanol and they ran ok. Once the tanks were refilled with fresh gasoline...they all seemed fine again.

I have never drained my planes, cans, lawnmowers, chainsaws, weedwhackers, etc during off seasons.....sometimes lasting 5 months or so. Never used stabilizers and never had any issues in the spring. I use whatever gas is convenient, although do try to buy 91-93 for my plane.

Maybe I'm just blessed, or lucky....or both! Well....I know I'm blessed

Yup, that would be it. Metal tank I mean. So here is a short lil story of why I asked you the questions I did. I purchased the sweetest generator for my trailer from a pawn shop. I got it for 60 bucks out the door. It was brand new but they said they had it like three months and could never get it started. Well I buys it like back last year. I opened the cap and about got knocked off my feet. Ethanol...rotten ethanol at that. Now mind you, according to them it had been sitting in a pawn shop for three months with ethanol gas in the metal tank. No stabil ever. I brings it he and a month ago I finally got around to checking it out. The screen in the tank was completely plugged with the break down of the fuel and residue of the tank. I've heard metal tanks will do this very rapidly. Plastic also, but not quite as quickly. Anyway, pulled the carb apart. Distorted gaskets but otherwise clean. Dumped and rinsed the tank thoroughly. Put the carb back together and added a new external filter and new Tygon fuel line. First pull of the rope and she caught. A gem of a running generator. Has never failed to start first pull since.

Moral to this is, stabil in plastic tanks/cans can make a world of difference.

I hate to add this but my lawn mower is 16 years old. Never used a drop of stabil over winter storage and it will sit outside for 5 months or more. Every year I just top off the tank and it fires up on the first or second pull. Primer start no choke plate. That mower has a plastic fuel tank. My gas pressure washer I maybe use once a year in the spring. Metal fuel tank, diaphragm carb with primer. Never added anything to the fuel. Always starts and it around 10 years old. It has sat for 2 years before and started up. Granted I usually top it off when I go to start it but I'm sure you get the point.

.......Cheap pump gas......Cheap China tubing......Cheap China motors and some not so cheap China motors. The not so cheap China motors do great along with the Cheap China motors with 87octane and 10% or less ethanol. 32:1 red line keeps me happy with my Cheap stuff and not so cheap stuff. The weather has more of an affect on performance where I am at over the fuel type and oil content.

If you are happy with the way your stuff performs then I don't need to persuade you to do something different.I burn 93oct with redline and have not had any problems with my DLE's, DL's and SPE. I do notice the tygon does have a tendency to harden due to ethanol.

If you are happy with the way your stuff performs then I don't need to persuade you to do something different.I burn 93oct with redline and have not had any problems with my DLE's, DL's and SPE. Good answer . And that is why I do not use tygon because I CHEAP!
The China tubing stands up to ethanol fuel really well. I like it.

Try Viton ,Tubing more money and it doesn't break down like tygon
