IMAC Double Build, Carden Pro 124" Extra 300 40%

Here is the rudder/fin for #1

still needs some more sanding, and then cutting out the rudder, but, it is a start....

I like it, I like it!!

Nothing negative to say.

But I have learned some things...

Even though some say not to,

I believe, it is important, to lay the foam down on a flat surface, and then, put it in the bag, then insert your felt, then

make sure the plastic on top and bottom of foam has no wrinkles, then, add a piece of plywood, 3/4" or so, and to the shape of the wing / rudder /stab,

on top of the plastic

and then add some weights, 30 pounds or so,

then, initiate the vacuum process.

Don't ask me how I know this.....

Alky6, it was the rudder on the last build i did. It did not come out straight. And with a counterbalance, it was noticeable. The airplane did fly straight, but, I just did not like it. I was going to redo the rudder, until the airplane was grabbed by a Tree at an IMAC contest. SO for now, I am moving on.

OK, got more done this morning...

this is from the plans:

reason I am making a big deal about this, is, when I made the skins, the skin for the bottom rear deck, is slightly different dimension, but, you do not want to confuse the two. The key is that the turtle-deck is 7.5" at the rear aspect. Just an FYI.

Also, he refers to this as the top rear deck, whereas I have always called it a turtle deck, so my bad.

here is something even more interesting....
here is the sheet I made....

this is the rear top deck, which I had not inspected before....

this is what I found when I removed the shuck inner piece. AN extra piece?? Well, discard that....
IMG_2025.JPG

after removal of that one extra piece, not to be incorporated in the top rear deck....

trial fitting of the skin with the deck, in the shuck...

now I can mark it.... (trim time now)
