Extreme Flight 76/83" MXS

I'm with you Ole on the break in... I did three tanks buzzing around at 1/3 throttle. Took FOREVER. I literally sat down on the grass and just flew circles. I finally couldn't stand it on the 4th tank and just started having fun.
After about a gallon my rpm's quit increasing, and I suppose this means it's pretty well broken in. The DA-35 has been awesome. Wish my MXS was still in one piece and flyable. It needs a motorbox though, and I talked to Curtis at EF yesterday, he doesn't think they will ever offer a motorbox for it because of the way the wing tube is integral to it he said. The parts of the box I need don't have anything to do with the wing tube I don't think, (bottom, sides, and firewall).
So... if I ever want to get the MXS back in the air it looks like a whole new kit will be in order for me. I'll probably just wait and buy the 74" Laser instead though. Might as well try something different. Hoping the laser will be a pound or so lighter, as I always felt the MXS could have used a tad more power than the DA-35 provided.

Why not buy some ply and hardwood and build the motor box again. I'd be happy to make reference images for you.

To do it right I would need to debond the entire sides/bottom/firewall and build new ones as the current ones are pretty bad, at least forward of the last former. I would never get the slots cut that perfect for all the interlocking bits. And frankly I don't have the time for it either... with two young kids my shop time is very very limited these days!

My left wing is destroyed, right stab needs significant work and would be a bear to recover perfectly, and I need a new wing tube, landing gear and cowl. About 250 bucks of parts, which is much cheaper than a new kit, and shipping should be a good bit cheaper too. But the motorbox part is the tricky one. If it was electric I would just slap on an outer layer of plywood and epoxy what's left of the existing motor box area to the reinforcements, but with gas I don't like half-baked repairs like that. I fly hard and want to make sure the plane is up for it.

I'll get the laser and stick this one to the side. Perhaps someday I'll attempt a repair, but for now I have too much else going on to take that on.

up to 12 flight today, DA35 is running fantastic, I have not touched the needles yet. after the first start this morning with the usual choke on, pop, choke off, flip until it starts, it prefered no choke for the rest of the day, 2-3 flips and it is running. Started to bring it down low a bit but still need to play with my throttle curve, I was all over the place with rollers, but plane flys fantastic, KE with almost no rudder, really liking this size
