Extreme Flight 88" Edge -- now with EXP sized horizontal stabs

Hey Rog!
On cowls with really large openings like that, I've seen people put a little lip on the forward edge of the opening, as this helps create something of a vacuum effect to pull air entering through the front of the cowl out of the bottom/back

Not sure what you mean Gary.

Is that something they glue to the inside of the cowl?

I looked at a lot of photos tonight of the 104" extra with DA120 on mufflers and it already has a carby hole pre cut in the front of the cowl. They tend to cut openings like I did for the DA70 for exit.

I'm kinda shooting in the dark at present, Chris H had something similar to my cutout on the 91" extra on DA70 but also had the hole in front of the carby as well???/

I was referring to a 1/2" high air damn on the forward outside lip of your cut out.

but Id try the carby cutout first :)

No problem Bro.

I went with secraft 20mm standoffs and it's sweet.

I'm going to open a carb hole in the cowl to see how that goes .

Thank you sir! I thought that I would probably be the guinea pig with this airframe/engine combo but it appears that you beat me to it. Following closely! Thanks again!

Mine is done. Fired her up today and after fighting with my small twin to get it to start the first time it was a pleasure to flip it three times to pop and two to run! What a sweet running engine. If the weather cooperates this weekend should be a blast! Mejz 24X10 standard. Da-70 on stock mufflers. It should be a 3D beast!

Nice.

Did you run her up to full throttle?

Just curious if she can breath properly without an opening in font of cowl.

Mine needed and extra opening to reach peak rpm.

I learned from your experience and did cut the carb hole like you did. These pics were taken before the cowl was finished.

I was not happy with the slit that I cut on the left side of the cowl. It was not nearly as clean as yours. Actually it looked like a 4th grader cut it!
I have fashioned a blister. Just waiting for the paint to dry. I will post pics. It looks much better to me.

Here is the embarrassing cut for my plug cap.

Here is the blister that I fashioned from part of a plastic spoon. It is just taped in place here. I'm going to glue it on with some Welders adhesive. Not perfect but looks much better to me than the gaping maw!
