With the wing center section's frame mostly complete, I found myself staring at it wondering what I should do next. I need to decide on servo placement before I do too much more on it.

Then, I was suddenly inspired to start on the horizontal stab. Making the stab and attaching it to the booms would give me a better idea on how the linkages should go together, right?

I'm very excited and happy with the progress!

And now here's the results with the before and after stab installation:

Before I go much further on the tail booms and wing center section, I need to set the wires for the tail beacon and the pushrods for the rudders and elevator, along with mounting the servos.

I was going to use the Hobby King high power LED system I have on hand, but the LED's are all attached to a small board and heat sink, which is too big for the beacon. They may work fine for the other lights.

I have a plan to try using a different bulb, but it may not last very long. We'll see how that turns out.

I'm going to stick to the plans for the elevator servo placement - rather than have one on each side in the wing center section like I was pondering, I'll just stick with the one servo in the center. HOWEVER, unlike the plans, I'm going to run a pushrod down each boom so there will be a control horn on each side. Due to where the rudders sit, I do not think a hidden control horn will be possible (SAD FACE).

Right now, I'm feeling VERY DISCOURAGED by the linkage options for the elevator and rudders. There is just not much room to work with for concealing the rods once they get to the fins. I'm going to look around online and see what the full scale linkages look like, but I'm about to the point of just giving in and having the tubes exit where they need to exit to simply make it work.

So, I've been mulling about how to handle the tail booms and the linkages for awhile now. I've decided it's time to put the issue to bed so that I can stop fretting about it. It has been stalling progress. I'm going to go ahead and mount four mini servos in the stab with a hatch on the underside at each end of the stab. Each hatch will hold an elevator and a rudder servo. I'll have to figure out the best way to make sure the hatches curve correctly to match the stab. Probably make up a couple of ribs to help form them correctly.

This is not going to look the best and it adds weight to the tail, but I'm sick of struggling with this issue.

The other idea that was presented to me was to cover the foam with 1/64 balsa sheeting instead of 2oz cloth as a possible weight-saving idea. I'll still be glassing it to finish, but with one layer of 1/2 oz cloth and resin. This is still debatable, but it would make me more comfortable to do it this way. I'm still a little afraid of glassing in general, so multiple layers is intimidating.

I'm in a bit of a holding pattern while I wait for servo wires and servos.

I made a cut-out in the bottom of the stab and used a piece of 1/8" ply for the hatch cover. Using advice from above, I'm going to cover with with a layer of balsa and sand to match the airfoil of the surface.

Progress has been slow due to other things interfering...

Way to go pat! How's Oliver's 3d progress this year? Is he kicking butt and on his way to the podium at XFC yet?

Oliver is struggling with a broken airplane, (the old Aerobeez Slick) at the moment. He's also not too fond of that RW Extra that we have. I'm not giving up on it yet, but in the meantime he doesn't have anything that he truly loves flying.

Gotcha! Well northwestrc is not to far away! LOL Mo Money Mo Money....

I looked at some of the pics on this thread again and wow.... I don't think I really realized just how big this plane is going to be!

How are you going to haul this thing?
