First flights of 2019 in the bag It was an oddly cloudy (and rainy ) day in the driest county in the US, but the Yuma Aeromodelers club was more than happy to facilitate me, Mike Dobbies, and Dan Skuropacki with our AJ airplanes.

That's an 86", haven't flown one. I flew the 104" ARS last summer and it's a phenomenal flying airplane. Lots of tail authority and very aggressive flying.

This past week end was just fabulous for anything and everything that has wings and a motor . I officially christened my 2019 flight log and watched some really cool jets and a 35% Demonstrator do it's thing. Unfortunately I forgot that GoPro's need to get a full charge too . So no vid or pics of an amazing 50 pound CF 3.6 meter motor glider with a 120 newton gas turbine. It was very fast and very aerobatic. Most exciting to watch. My buddies P-51 performed very well and the Alien Extra caught some ones eye so it will be going to a new home (SOLD) . This was all of Saturday's fun. Sunday was even a bit more calm and all the EDF's were the rage including my Avanti S . Too bad my CAP 232EX had expired earlier on but it's replacement is due in tomorrow.

Yes the "Alien" has taken over another person! lol A really nice fella named Roger is the new owner. We did a great "package" ready to fly deal. So I am again in the market for a new radio too. As far as an airframe I will be working on my 78" 50cc Pilot Extra 330sc for now.
I will either get the DX9 "Black" or the iX12. Should have the Extra ready in a couple of weeks along with the replacement CAP 232 EX.
Thing is they don't unbox themselves .

I have the dx9 'black'. It came with the 35% edge 540 i bought. Already programmed together so why not. I'm not a picky transmitter user but have no issues with it as compared to my Futaba 14sg. I definitely like the voice prompts.

@pawnshopmike is going to hook me up with the "Orange" iX12 . It wont be available until sometime in March though. Once I get it in my grubby fat hands will let you know what I think.

Nothing wrong in getting it turn key ready to fly . I just happen to know someone who did the same thing . Truth be known I liked my G2 DX8 better than my 14SG. 14SG was a sweet radio but the telemetry with Spektrum is more savvy IMO. Both radios "feel" comfy and don't make you tired holding them. And lets face it....Spektrum wont bankrupt your wallet like Futaba or Jeti can.

An 18SZ has long been in my sights and I really don't have an RC budget limit but I don't buy what I don't need or to excess. My 14sg works fine and now I have the dx9, I may be years away from a new radio.

Maiden complete! I need to readjust the thrust vectoring as it pitches up pretty drastically when I pull the power. That problem caused a drop in on my last flight causing the tire failure...

But this plane is going to be lots of fun with the vectoring and with it being a little warmer... 3 flights in 37 degree weather with a 27 degree windchill... yuck.
