I have the 50cc version but momma has said I can't build it until Christmas. Right now it is sitting in my shop wrapped in plastic staring at me while I build a GT Trainer that I have kept pushing off to the back burner.

Geez don't ya guys just hate priorities. I emailed Redwing to check on the stock to see if they still had enough, but haven't heard back yet.
If Im able to get one of the 30cc Extra's I think I will take Bipenuts advise on the motor choice he mentioned HERE Hacker A-60-18L with a 24x12 prop and 12s 65c 5000 mah.
Should be a pretty potent combo. Think I'll stick with the Hitec HS-7954SH servos too.

Edit:
First Im going to call Ken @ SubsonicPlanes and chat with him. See whats what, might be able to do something special for me.

I would take Bipe's advice too. I am not an electric guy. I love the sound, smell and duration of gas. I admit, I do own 7 electric birds.

FMS F4 Corsair (weak gear)
FMS P51 Mustang (burned up motor)
FMS F4 Phantom (EDF) (won at Christmas Party 2015)
E-flight Pacer (won at Christmas Party 2014)
E-Flight Carbon Z Cub (Got me back into the hobby)
Twisted Hobbys Crack Yak (I can fly at the house)
E-flight Apprentice S (Trainer for wife and grandkids)

Jeebers, I really need to thin the herd. When I started typing this I thought, I have 4 electrics. Then I thought... "No, I also have this, and this, oh yeah...this too." And I still have gas and glow planes too. It is an illness I tell you.

Too funny...:bouncy:

We be some sick mofo's and it's all good. :)
Ive even been looking at some EDF Jets to get my speed freak fix. I think it's a better way to
go instead of trying to get the speed fix out of these type of planes. "Extras, Slicks, Edges and so on".
What the hell it's only money right and you can't take it with ya and bla bla bla and so on and so forth
and whatever else. Im getting to old to give a crap. Well maybe not, but close. :)

I ran the A60-18L with a Xoar 24x12 PJN and 12s 5000 30C packs in my 50cc Yak 54 and it hauled that airplane around with authority. It's probably going to be way overkill and a lot of weight for a 30cc airplane though, the motor alone weighs 2lb- coupled with the mount and the ESC you need you're right about 3lb. Add in another 3lb for the batteries, and your entire power system is going to weigh around 6lb (a DA35 weighs 2lbs and doesn't need batteries or a speedo) :veryshocked: I was making just shy of 3600 watts. That would be something close to 300 watts/lb if you could manage to keep the airplane around 12lb, but with the size of batteries you would need to get a manageable flight time, you're probably going to wind up closer to 15lb which nets you only around 240 watts/lb, plus the airplane will fly very heavy and carry a lot of weight.

For a 30cc airplane, I'd look for a lighter setup ran on 8S. Hacker's A60-5S on a 21x10 prop with an 8s 4400 setup would fly a lot better and a lot lighter with plenty of power. You'll be around 230 watts/lb which is still ballistic.

Good info Xpress thanks much bud. Your spot on about the weight. This is a tricky thing finding that sweet spot between weight and the kind of speed Im looking for.
I have been talking quite a lot with Ken about an upcoming motor he's working on. He said it's ok to talk about now, so I will. I told him which airframe I am going to get
which is the 78" EF Extra 300 and I told him that I want to make it a speed demon over 3d but still be able to some 3d. When I showed him the video of his DM4330/216kv
motor pulling 3200 Watts he was not surprised, but he did want to know how it performed. That motor was basically designed to run at 2700W max, but he said they are
capable of 3200 no problem. Just not recommended unless you know you can keep the temps down. Anyway, he started telling me about a motor he's working on for just
this size of plane 78" or so. Said it will be @ 4000 watts on 12s and weigh in around 28 ounces. So he and I are going to work on getting the right prop and esc setup and
dial it in from there. May have to do a few rewinds to get it where I want, but it should be a lot of fun getting it where I want it. I have also been thinking more and more
about doing the EDF Jet thing as well. Leave the 3D planes alone to do 3D things and get a Jet to do the speed thing. I was just telling a friend that I was even considering
the Horizon Hobby Habu 32x DF as my starter plane and then move up to some nicer stuff from there. I think that would make more sense don't you guy's. Instead of trying
to force my speed fix on an aircraft that wasn't really designed for speed, just do it right and get something that is designed to go fast. Thoughts on any of this?
