So here we are, working our ass off to get to the field, perfect day, sub 80 degrees out, no wind to speak off, full sun.......what ever could possibly screw up this perfect afternoon at the fly field you say??!?!?!?!??? FOGS, spraying for weeds that are not there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We'll, I got the LAW on my side so I say efem there starting on the other side of the field, they weren't even nice enough to tell me what they were doing and it took them a while to even get things working. I'm flying!! We got three flights in before they were close enough to our side of the field that I had just enough room to land between the sprayer dude and the safety fence. So for the vid you get a little trimming and transmitter tuning, a little bit of fun and shenanigans and a few pics. We WILL be back out again very soon for some lowdown throwdown vids!!!
With that here is my details on three flights.
- Cold start, choke and throttle like normal, flip till it pops, ignition off, three flips, ignition on, one flip and running. Pretty painless!!
- First flight, typical maiden on the bird.....couple clicks of trim, work on KE mixing.....no biggie. I used the same Expo as on the Viper, but this plane is shorter so I was low on expo in case you notice my rollers are off and flight is a bit jerky.
- First flight engine was exactly as expected, it was slightly rich from bottom to the top, but ran great and never missed a beat. I followed the advise given by Joe and did lots of heat cycles with uplines and downlines but did sneak a little down on the deck for a few seconds there.
- Second flight, about half way through the engine got notably more rich.....so much so that I landed and turned the low needle about two "blade widths" more lean.....just a touch, maybe 1/16 turn max. Rest of flight was great.
- THIRD flight, who baby, we are getting somewhere! Things are sounding better, barely a burble, spool up is sweet, uplines are amazing......starting to get much closer to tossing the plane around like a rag-doll type power. Crankshafts are crazy, uplines are super fast at just over half throttle......
Just when the sun is getting good for a perfect last flight throwdown........weed guy's are too close to the flight line and we have to pack up and leave.
