I like 'em "BIG"!
A little after midnight here in Idaho, and I am thinking it is time for beddy bye. But first, a few photos of todays progress. Not really much to say regarding progress. Other than the Yak is nearly a YAK, again.
I did have however a couple of last minute items to take care of. One, the canopy hold down rest pads needed to be modified a touch. It is about the only thing I can see that needs a little refinement on this airframe. When designed, a small square lite ply doubled is glued on the inside of the outer fuse to allow the canopy hold downs to rest against. Problem as I seen it is they sit in there at the same arch as the outer fuse skin. Which means the canopy hold downs do not sit flush on them. So, I added a small piece of balsa to them then "wedge" sanded them into shape so that the hold downs have a nice flat surface to sit against.
Also, there are two small balsa backer supports for the front of the outer fuse skins that glue on the inside of the fuse sides against the cowl ring. They add extra support for the fuse sides to sit against.
I now have the firewall set in place and figured it is time to get some clothes on this behemoth Yak.
First the white...
And now for the stripes....
Tomorrow I will get the right sides striped and then open up the wing pockets and get them finished up. After that, I may recover the wing and get the gear mounted. Or, I may start installing equipment. Not sure what I feel like right now, but she is getting close. Heck, Maybe I can make it for this weekend after all. LOL....
