The one "downside" of using a GP61 is the need for a rear choke. I used a bell crank, and had the choke pull exit the side of the cowl. Works great and looks clean in my opinion.

Looks great! Id like to see methodoligy for setting that bell crank up to have a good fit with the cowl like that along with any identified pitfalls to avoid.

That is GREAT news. I know this can be hard for a factory to get them to line up well. But looks like they are listening to us and doing all the little things right that we ask!

I was thinking about cutting more of my cowl out too. Looks good. Work has been busting me apart getting ready for a trip with me wife. Got some big fall events that it'll be at too. Looks great. You'll pass me up and then I'll copy your set up the rest of the way!

Overall, the plane flew very, very well. I'm still getting her dialed in, and it was a brand new engine (first start 2 minutes prior to maiden) so I didn't push too hard.
Here is what I can say with certainty: this one is a keeper!

Harriers: ZERO wing rock.
Energy (spins, tumbles): OUTSTANDING. Poptopping machine!
Knife Edge: no mixing needed, but it could be done if you wanted, but the inputs needed to correct were essentially insignificant.
Speed: Freaking fast. No joke: brand new GP61 engine, brand new Xion 24x10 prop, and the engine was ripping it.
Presence: This plane simple looks amazing in the sky. Easily one of the most beautiful planes I've ever flown.

Only down side from the day's flights: the blocks/tabs on the front/bottom of the firewall that you screw the lower canopy bolts into... well they separated from the firewall. completely. This caused the cowl to rub up against the back of the spinner and wear the paint off, and also pick up a little damage around the cylinder and spark plug. Luckily this was the damaged cowl that RedwingRC is replacing anyway... (which I got shipping notification of, yesterday!)

Congrats Gary on getting yours in the air! Also good to hear about the cowl mounting tabs...I will strengthen mine before flying. On my way back from three days in Knoxville with some flying buddies at a house mountain fly in. Good times, hot weather...ready for some lower humidity. Got to see some awesome crashes. Want to get home and finish my extra! Do you have any pics of your throttle mounting arrangement? I really don't like how short the throttle arm is on the gp61
