Well Gents,

Like I said in my post above, I have been very busy with work so I've had little free time to work on the Laser. While I was taking Bart's receiver out of the plane, I had a few extra minutes so I went ahead and removed the DLE and the cowl to do some measuring. As it turns out, I will not be able to use either of my 3W's on the plane. Those of you who are familiar with 3W engines can probably already guess why not. For those that are not familiar with 3W's, the problem is with the rear intake. More specifically, the size of the reed block between the carburetor and the engine. Even with a hole in the fire wall, he thicker reed block puts the HS & LS needles right where the firewall is so it will be next to impossible to adjust the needles, especially in the Laser with the cowl on. So, I have a couple of options. First of which is buy a DA-70 that has the carburetor on the bottom of the engine or convince @stangflyer to sell me one of his older 3w-70's. . . . . :yesss:. Of course I'd probably have better luck sand papering a wild mountain lion's ass. . . . . . .. So a DA will be ordered shortly and by the time it gets here, I should be done with the rush projects at work so I can get it on the plane. That's all for this update, Fella's. I'm ready to hit the sack.. . . :bigyawn:.

You are correct 3W are difficult to install and require quite a lot of changes to make them serviceable. Have two of them and I do know what your are looking at.

Good evening Fellas,

Well, I've been working 7 days a week so I've had absolutely zero time to work on my Laser or anything else for that matter. . . . . . :cryin:. Working all this overtime has a tendency to get me down, but it's days like today that I am reminded why I work so much. Our secretary walked into my office and handed me a good sized box right before lunch. Inside the plain brown box was this. . . . . :woohoo!:
DA-70.jpg

Needless to say, this put a smile on my face for the rest of the day. . . . . :yesss:. My Laser has it's motivation now, so all I need is for work to slow down enough to let me work on it. . . :big_yes:. Looking at the numbers on the lower left corner of the box, is it just me or does the ignition number seem out of proportion to the engine number? . . . .. That's all for tonight because I feel like I've been rode hard and put away wet. . . . :bigyawn:.

Geez,

Almost two months without an update and I haven't done anything with my Lazer except order an Engel 24x10 CF and an Engel 23x12 CF prop for the Da70. That's until my flying buddy emailed me this morning and asked if I wanted to run my DA70. I couldn't type yes fast enough. . . Lol. So I took my engine and a new Xoar 24x10 wood prop to his house. When I got there, he had already mounted his test stand to his bedslide and he was waiting for me. He had also drilled an old Fuch 24x10 wood prop to run the DA with. So I bolted the engine and his stand offs to the test stand & before I knew it, we had this. . . .

I apologize for the focus on the second picture. . . :face-palm:.

We ended up running three tanks through the engine. The first tank & a half, we turned the high needle out half a turn. After that, we leaned it out just under a quarter of a turn and ran the other tank & a half through it. By the time we were done, the DA was tuning that old Fuch at nearly 6400 RPM with a ridiculously low idle @ +/-1600 RPM. We never touched the low needle and it was slightly rich on the low end, but the engine still has great transition. My Buddy said I should go ahead and mount the engine on the plane and fly it with the Fuch 24x10 for a while before we adjust the needles any more, which is what I'm going to do. . . . . :yesss:. My only question after today's break in is, what am I going to do with the Engel 23x12 I bought for the DA. . . . ..
